BAGHDAD: Violence raged across Iraq on Sunday, a day after the U.S. military sustained one of its worst one-day death tolls in the country since the war began in 2003.
A bomb killed at least 6 people and wounded 15 when it destroyed a minibus in Karrada, in central Baghdad, the police said. The bus was en route from the Bab al-Sharqi area to the central commercial district of Karrada when the explosion occurred at 8:15 a.m., shattering the windows of nearby stores.
About 45 minutes later, a bomb in a parked car exploded outside a restaurant in eastern Baghdad, wounding six people, according to the police.
On Saturday, an American helicopter crashed in a Sunni area north of Baghdad, killing all 12 aboard, military officials said. Iraqi officials in the area said that it had been shot down, though there was no immediate confirmation from U.S. officials.
