She is a staunch Roman Catholic,goes to church twice a week. It's a choice,etc etc. A co-worker lent her the dvd,she said she forced herself to watch it. Again and again,and again and again. Then she bought the dvd. "You have to watch it." "It's a beautiful love story." She's even trying to get her parents to watch it. Isn't it nice how good things happen sometimes without anyone really pushing.

Also I didn't get the part where they had sex. It seemed like they were in a sleeping bag and it seemed like one guy maybe punched the other guy. I wasn't sure what was so romantic that led them to their encounter. But, it was a good movie from the part I saw, and hopefully I'll see the full thing one day and get it.

I think that the sex part was a bit weird to others too...basically think of it as years of pent up frustration plus internal disgust for their attraction to the other plus their years of being told it was bad thing...so you get anger and lust and hate all rolled into one.

4. It's a great film about what the closet does, IMO

and how the shame involved in being who you are and loving who you love destroys everyone, not just the lovers. It destroys wives, children, siblings, and parents, all of whom are as touched by the shame of the terrible secret of being created a little bit different from the majority.

Maybe repeated viewings will get them to see that part. They've seen the love story, and that's a start.

7. I've seen that a lot -- it's the best love story in years

And I credit Heath Ledger's performance for how much people connect to that movie. Every single person who has loved someone he or she can't have has gone through what Ennis went through (even if we didn't drag it out over our whole lives). I've literally seen the light click on for an anti-gay person when Ennis punches the fence and nearly vomits... "I've felt that way before".

There have been groundbreaking "gay" movies before but I think this one was so important and so powerful because it was a love story (and a damn good one) first, it just so happened that the couple was gay.

9. I can't watch it too often...

It gets to me. The first time I watched it at the movie theater the story hung with me for days. I couldn't stop thinking about it and I kept seeing scenes over and over in my head.

It's still that way even now. Love this movie!

10. I think it's amazing

It's such a beautifully-made movie, too. The scenic shots are absolutely incredible. The love story is at first, so wonderful, and then so tragic. The scene where Ennis' truck drives away and Jack flashes back to being held by him just rips my heart out. It truly is just a wonderful love story and it concentrates on story elements without putting emphasis on "Hey these guys are gay!". At the same time, it does show the pain involved in hiding. I think it is a perfect movie to take further the crazy idea that homosexuals are people too. I do think this country is moving forward in that regard and I am proud of my country for its progress.
