Lyndon Johnson Told the Nation, "Have no fear of escalation..."
Remember this one from Tom Paxton?

Lyndon Johnson told the nation,
"Have no fear of escalation.
I am trying everyone to please.
Though it isn't really war,
We're sending fifty thousand more,
To help save Viet nam from Viet Namese."

Deja vu all over again. We're going down the same road, except I fear that Iran is far more dangerous than Cambodia.

1. It is strange ....
I can remember being concerned that we would end up in this situation in Afghanistan. And, to an extent that Americans do not seem to recognize, we have. But not on the scale we are in Iraq.

2. Some are calling for escalation in Afghanistan too.
When we start illegal forays across the Iranian border, if they haven't already started we need to figure out how to stop Bush & Co. It has gone far enough already.

3. The situation is eerily familiar
I've been noting how much things stay the same got a couple of years now, substitute w* for lbj and it's the same damn thing.

4. Afghanistan is also turning into a losing proposition
as it has done for so many invader/occupiers.

When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
An' go to your Gawd like a soldier
- Kipling
