Anything that's good for New Orleans is all right with me, cherie. And hey--did you see Reggie Bush just snow, smoking the entire Bears' secondary? Wow.

1. It's OK...
Even though we all know that the money spent on football could be better spent on doing good, and football contributes to a culture of violence, it's OK for progressives to secretly watch football and cheer for their favorite team(s).

2. secretly?
what's wrong with spending money on art, sport, and works of passion and beauty? i wish we had more sport and less war in this society

i hope the saints win but it's a little scary

if they win they are indeed "doing good," the positive media and the spiritual uplift brought to the city mean more than words can say

hell just getting this far means more than words can say

4. Oh, dear lord.
Are progressives really joyless puritans who must take every pleasure in secret as a sin? How utterly unpleasant.

7. How do you know the people attending games aren't also contributing
money elsewhere that does benefit others?

Also, I'd say Hollywood and the entertainment industry in general has been more responsible for creating a culture of violence than any pro sport has in the last 30 or so years.

5. I'm bummed...
I'm pulling for the Saints and it just doesn't look like it is gonna happen. Damn.

FOUR turnovers is NOT a good thing. That was one hell of a touchdown run by Bush! I loved seeing that!

6. That intentional grounding safety seemed to turn the game
The Saints went from down by less than a field goal to an utter collapse in offense and defense.

It would have been great to see them go to the Super Bowl but no-one can deny that they exceeded all expectations this year.
