Md. kids may miss school over vaccinations

BALTIMORE, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Up to 12,000 children in Maryland may not be allowed into school next week unless they receive a pair of required vaccinations in time.

State regulations require that the nearly 12,000 middle and high school students receive vaccinations for hepatitis B and chickenpox this weekend or else they will not be allowed to attend school, the Baltimore Sun reported.

Nearly half of the students who lack the required vaccinations reside in Baltimore, while the remainder are in central Maryland.

The updated vaccine regulations had resulted in nearly 25,000 students lacking the needed vaccinations by a Jan. 1 deadline, but those students were temporarily allowed to stay in class.
