3. I think referring to the depletion of our "National Treasure" is appropriate
when referring to the Iraq debacle. In a literal sense, treasure is supposed to be riches that you have http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/treasure">(link). But in these days of massive deficits, I think it's also suitable to call the accumulation of massive debt as a loss of treasure.
