I would like diplomacy, secure borders/air/ports, and collective security efforts. I would like the end of torture, the death penalty, and the drug war. I would like the right to join a union and to universal health care.

4. Security, Universal Health Care, Economic Growth

The issues are always going to be the same. Believe it or not, Old Dick'em Nixon used to say this. The most important issue is always "War vs. Peace." Number two is the economy. Number three is Social Security, Medicare and benefits. The rest depend on the year.

Bill Clinton was elected in a year when "War vs. Peace" was not the most important issue. Big Bill gave us a roaring economy, balanced budgets and progress on Social Security, Medicare and universal health insurance. If he hadn't let Monica blow it (pun intended), he might have done something on universal health care.

This time, "War vs. Peace" will again be the key issue, but it's perverse -- because Pigfuck has screwed up in Iraq so badly. So the "War vs. Peace" issue might break our way for once.

I've got my fingers crossed a Dem can come up with something on the other two.

5. Universal health care and an end to all the "wars" (drugs, poverty, terrorism),

and a REAL investigation of the Bushler administration for their numerous crimes against: New Orleans, the U.S. Constitution, Iraq, U.S. soldiers, Enron, Harkin, et al.

8. Public financing of elections is #1 with me.

Strengthening the presidential system, and instituting a congressional system. I believe this would serve as the foundation for any other reform we would care to make.

Then, I want someone whose goal will be maximizing voter turnout, and doing everything in their power to make sure that every vote counts.

Then, I want someone who has the courage to order our withdrawal from Iraq, in the face of reckless accusations from the opposition of being the one who "lost" Iraq. I'd also like them to have a plan for ameliorating the serious consequences of the Iraq War which will no doubt plague us for years, even decades, to come.

Then, I want someone who will return respect for the rule of law and civil liberties to our government.

Then, I want someone who will do everything in their power to encourage workers to organize themselves.

Then, I want someone who understands that improving education does not mean more standardized testing. Repeal NCLB. To go along with that, this person would support actual science, not sectarian morality pretending to be science. This includes turning their back on industry propaganda to enact real protections against increased global warming and all environmental damage.

Then, I want someone who isn't afraid to reshape the tax system to ensure that those who can afford the most, actually pay their fair share.

Finally, I want someone whom I can trust to appoint Supreme Court justices who understand the damage the Court did to itself with Bush v. Gore, and who will work hard to regain America's trust.

Know anyone like that?

I have no horse in 2008 but I hope the Dems will put someone up that I can back, work for and get elected. :)

10. I'd like an intellectual (good reasoning skills and science-oriented), a strong negotiator

and a closet liberal softy (that is, deep inside s/he really strives for lofty goals such as world peace).

Beyond that, I'll take anyone who is competent...oh, and fixes the environment.

11. I want someone who is a real

leader, someone who listens to the people of America and what he/she proposes is with them in mind not the corporations. A person like that wouldn't lead us into war and they would consider anything less than a single payor health care system unworkable. I want someone who can play nice with others and can restore our reputation.

That's what I want! To be able to trust what my leaders are telling me to be the truth! I want to live in a world where up is up, and down is down. No more need to "Spin" the truth to suit the purpose!I want a President who can speak the Kings English, and understand what the ordinary American goes through daily, rather than how things are, living "down the rabbit hole" like our present Dictator! I want a Problem solver, a Diplomat, and a Leader. One who leads by example, not "do as I say, and not as I do" I can only think of one person who fits that criteria at the moment, and he hasn't declared yet!! RUN JOHN, RUN !!!

15. our candidate must be willing to do two things, imo . . .

1) be a populist, i.e. stand up for the people and our legitimate needs (which include things like ending the war, protecting the environment, etc.), and . . .

2) take on the corporations with vicious determination to bring them under control . . .

16. Vision, experience, political savvy, good judgment and strength tempered by compassion.

Vision: I want a candidate who has a vision of a country which works with other nations to maintain peace, prosperity and the health of the planet we share. My ideal candidate would champion the longterm interests of middle and working class Americans and work to create a sustainable economy. You might call such a person a progressive populist.

Experience: I want someone who can do the job. My ideal candidate would be someone who has a record of achievement both as a legislator and as an executive. I'd like someone who is well traveled and understands and appreciates other cultures. Military service is a plus--service during wartime a big plus.

Political Savvy: My ideal candidate would know how to operate in today's political environment both on screen and off. I'm talking someone who combines the traditional personal charm and TV appeal with an understanding of the political process and a demonstrated ability to get things done. I'd also like to see someone who understood new technology and it's promises and traps.

Judgment: I want to support someone who has demonstrated good judgment throughout his or her life both in privately and in public. My litmus test for public judgment will be where the candidate stood on the Iraq war in 2003--not in 2007.

Strength: I want someone who will fight hell to win, and demonstrates a willingness to stomp any opponent into the ground who dares to go negative against him or her. I want someone who after winning will fight like hell to do what he or she has told us he or she will do.I want someone who has demonstrated the courage in the past to take an unpopular stand.

With all of those people in this country, it shouldn't be too difficult to find someone who meets these criteria, should it? Unfortunately, none of those people are running.

will get my vote. I don't want someone who just puts a bandaid on it and then moves onto other things. We're facing a worldwide crisis and this should be the focus of every government.

Second, I want someone who is politically savvy and strong. It will take a strong leader and fighter to address the issues we face today.

Congress will take care of the domestic issues just fine, but internationally we desperately need someone who can bring everyone back to the table and restore just a little good will toward the US.

1. The end of torture, including extraordinary rendition when we don't feel like getting our hands dirty.
2. The end of all domestic spying/surveillance programs, including snooping on peace activists and intercepting our cell phone calls.
3. The abolition of the Department of Homeland Security. They screwed up the post-Katrina relief effort and let FEMA take the blame.
4. An end to all efforts to privatize Medicaid and Medicare. Also, the end of most current corporate prescription schemes.
5. Responsible, studious, careful foreign diplomacy with a tip of the hat to the Iroquois Confederation's "seven generations" approach.
6. The end of the drug war.
7. All US troops pulled out of Iraq. If we must remain, let's get the UN involved.
8. Speaking of the UN, the honoring of all of our late dues to the UN.
9. A balanced Federal budget that will stay balanced at least until our National Debt is cut in half.
10. An overwhelming emphasis on legislation to guarantee our civil and Constitutional rights.
11. Criminal prosecution of Bush administration officials (including Bush) in regards to Iraq, Jack Abramoff, domestic spying, etc.
