At This Point, Mitt Romney Will Win In '08
Edited on Mon Jan-22-07 03:46 AM by stopbush
Why? Because every other lead candidate from both parties is a US Senator, and US Senators haven't been elected president since JFK.

Americans elect governors to the presidency, not senators. Carter, Reagan, Clinton, The Idiot - all govs.

Our only hope in '08 is Gov Bill Richardson!

OK, I'm sort of kidding here, but still...

4. Frankly, I think the field has too many candidates and,
in the long run, noone's message will be able to rise above the clamor to be heard if they all play the same game and all tap the usual suspects as campaign organizers. We really do needs someone diffeerent and fresh.

10. It takes more than the South to secure the oval office. Check
& count Electoral Votes per state. :)

Even wtih Texas and Florida, you'll need about 134 more from somewhere.....

11. You have NO sense of Bush family psychology, do you?
You think W rejects Daddy's foreign policy advice, but he's going to allow his BROTHER to upstage him? Like fun he will. Uncle Dick is the Leader of Free World, and he's got the torture chamber to convince you if you don't believe it.

9. Governor of Utah doesn't count
You have to be a governor of a state that's either a) east of the Mississippi or b) Texas or California. Being governor of Utah is like being undefeated champion of the Mountain West Conference. It's nice, and something for your mom to pin to the fridge, but it doesn't get you in the national championship game.

13. Senators Have More Baggage
The "conventional wisdom" is that Governors make the best Presidents since they have served in a similar capacity on the state level...while Senators and Congresscritters have limited experience in those areas. Senators, in specific, are at the very end of the legislative chain. Most bills originate in the House and move to the Senate and even if a Senator writes a bill, it rarely gets out the way he/she wrote it as it ends up in conference committee with the House. Or, Senators like to co-sponsor legislation from others and either try to take the credit when it's a popular move or can get tarred with it if it's not popular. The IWR was such a vote.

I keep citing two past elections that remind me of what's up ahead...1976 & '92. In '76...a year before the first primaries, the front runners were Hubert Humphrey and George McGovern...and in '92, all the "pundits" had Mario Cuomo all but written in as the Democratic Party candidate. At this point in the '04 cycle, how many people in January '03 had heard of Howard Dean or Wesley Clark? There's a long way to go until the first primary...stay tuned.
