When we're hit again, will we still wonder why they hate us?
I remember that desperate question on millions of lips after nine eleven, 'why do they hate America so much that they'd attack us'?, as if America was the innocent little lamb of the world, but if you dared mention why they might hate us, you'd get a scream in the face with spitting, 'You blame America firsters make me puke, you're no better than the Iraqis who attacked us'!, and other such hallucinations.

Has America generated any hatred lately? Will people still ask this odd question?

1. The RW hate liberal America anyway
so they won't be surprised.

It's ironic though because the muslim fundamentalists mostly hate America because of RW foreign policy...

2. "They" may hate us the most, but they also "hate" the Dutch,
the English, the French, the Germans, the Australians, secular Turks, and Black Muslims in Darfur among others. We have more than our share of domestic and international faults to deal with, but "they" are hardly pure and rational actors either.

13. Most of them hate Bush. Only "they" hate "us".
We got along with all of those countries under Clinton, but "they" still attacked the WTC, the two embassies in Africa and the Cole. Most people in foreign countries are able to differentiate between the American people and the policies of our government.

16. Bush's (il)legitimacy has little to do with why "they" hate us.
I have yet to hear them cite our electoral problems as one of their reasons for attacking. Promoting clean elections seem to be rather low on their list of priorities both within Muslin countries and in the West.

My only point was that they attacked us during Clinton's administration as well, not as successfully, but it wasn't for lack of trying.

4. Should we hate "them?"
There's as much of a reason for them to hate "us" in total as there is for "us" to hate "them."

This is the problem with generalizing, whether it's done on one side of an ocean or the other - it's mindless.

5. 600,000 dead innocent Iraqi civilians
say it's likely to happen. As for me, I will blame Bush Gang for getting us into that unenviable situation.

Just think. Glorious and Fearless Leader has killed more innocent Iraqi civilians than Saddam Hussein. Now that's a record to beat. :sarcasm:

7. I do too !
The bad guys have been waiting until the whole world hates us to attack us again. We're getting there so fast that it won't be long. No more worldwide support after the next 9/11 and bin laden has accomplished all of his goals without bothering to "attack us over here"

8. Far too many will still wonder
There are still too many people in this country that just don't get it.
When we get hit again, the right wing will scream bloody murder that the liberals caused this and all that crap. Then there will be a call for another attack on another middle eastern nation regardless weather they are involved.

America is full of stupid people.

11. It would be nice to really know who "hit" us on 9/11, before we go around
wringing our hands and working ourselves into an hysterical frenzy about the next supposed "hit". If people are scared, they need to find a way to not live in a major city. I know it is very hard to change one's lifestyle, but if one is truly afraid every day, it would be worth the trouble.

I refuse to live in fear. Because if we live in fear, the Bush-terrorists will have won.

12. If everyone who lived in New York moved to Iowa then Iowa...
Then Iowa would supposedly become the next target, assuming that they are targeting population centers.

It would be nice to know the truth about 9/11 though.

our government had everything to do with 9/11(but that will be another thread). killing is nothing to this wicked regime, we should all know that by now.

15. Well, we know it wasn't Osama
The FBI announced that it had no evidence linking Osama bin Laden to the attacks on 9/11. On its web page the FBI does not even mention that he is wanted with any crimes connected to 9/11.

So, uh, what's the whole point in bombing the hell out of Afghanistan? What did they have to do with 9/11 if Osama was not involved?

The real criminals behind 9/11 still have not been fingered.

20. It is maddening to think . . .
. . . that all those people died, and we'll never know for sure who killed them.

Steel buildings don't implode perfectly into their footprints without demolition charges.

And jet fuel, which is similar to kerosene, CANNOT MELT STEEL. The fires were burning themselves out when SOMETHING happened.

Doesn't it make you crazy?

that we will be retaliated on our soil. And when that happens, we had better be happy with 3000 dead, or the entire cycle repeats itself.

After killing hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis I will be shocked if some of their relatives don't follow us here.

Of course Bush and Cheney will just hide in their bunkers.

No bunkers for us though.

23. I often wonder why the American people think it is just fine
for the streets of Iraq to be blown to bits and yet they couldn't imagine that happening here. Hey folks we are at war and any sensible person would be afraid that this war is creating more violence here at home, not less. The problem as I see it is that more than 50% of the American people are idiots. I wish I knew the answer!

26. You are the second poster on this thread who places the blame
on the American people. "America is full of stupid people."(upthread #8). Now "more than 50% of the American people are idiots."

If you accept that most people did not vote for Bush in 2000 or 2004, then they may just not be total idiots. Perhaps they are not politicized enough, but most people in most countries, not just the US, go about every day life worrying about family, jobs, food, bill, etc. Perhaps it would be a better country and world, if more people were politicized (in our direction, of course), but to date that is just not how it is. Should Democrats spend our time bemoaning the stupidity of the electorate for not voting for us or convincing them that our policies better represent their interests (which means we have to approach them as sentient beings.)

The war is Bush's responsibility (and the politicians that enable him.) He is providing "them" with more and more ammunition to fuel resentment against us, but let's not forget that "they" attacked the WTC, the embassies in Africa and the Cole, under Clinton's watch. They didn't kill as many people, but it wasn't because they weren't trying to.

29. I would hope the people in this country are at least intelligent
enough to realize that if it happens now, it is part of the "war." The freepers will naturally claim that 911 started the war, but it won't make the survivors of the dead feel much better. But it might help flare up more anti-Muslim hatred. We are letting ourselves get drawn into the Israelis' conflict, actually. They've lost track of "who started it" as the last bombing of Lebanon showed, but we've joined their right wing in the double standard concept that the Arabs/Muslims deserve collective punishment (while our side does not).
