Poll question: How many people would rather post negative stuff about at candidate they dislike...
than positive stuff about their own chosen candidate or candidates?

2. I like to post both good and bad.
In an attempt to persuade people to see my point of view, which is why we are all here, I post the reasons that I dont like some people and the reasons that I like others. I dont name call (much), but I do try to enlighten. I have often been enlightened by research and links to articles that other people have done. Since I am a political junkie, I have more free time that others to research these articles. I simply present them so that they may see the light.

3. I like posting negative things about one candidate (Hillary)
But i'm pretty ok with most of the other candidates. I like Obama although i think he's two young - I like Edwards - I like Kucinich (although his Department of Peace idea is silly and he hasn't got a prayer). I would support any of them. Hillary I don't like, and I feel strongly about that.

So I'm more interested in tearing down Hillary than in building up any of the others.

5. Pay Attention Closely:
"Constructive criticism of Democrats or the Democratic Party is permitted. When doing so, please keep in mind that most of our members come to this website in order to get a break from the constant attacks in the media against our candidates and our values. Highly inflammatory or divisive attacks that echo the tone or substance of our political opponents are not welcome here.

You are not permitted to use this message board to work for the defeat of the Democratic Party nominee for any political office. If you wish to work for the defeat of any Democratic candidate in any General Election, then you are welcome to use someone else's bandwidth on some other website."

7. IF I get called on it I'll get called on it.
That's the way these things go.

What's the difference between constructive and non-constructive criticism? "Hillary Clinton should stop being a sell out" vs. "Hillary Clinton is a sell out?" I honestly don't believe she will stop being a Sell out - rather the pressures of the campaign will probably ensure great depths of selling out.

19. NO - Neither of your examples count as constructive criticism
Edited on Mon Jan-22-07 11:23 AM by kineta
Constructive criticism would include facts - "Candidate X is a sell out because s/he took $100,000 in campaign contributions from the Acme corporation and then passed legislation awarding an Acme corporation subsidy a fat contract to build a bridge to nowhere." (on edit: I forgot to add: "and heres a link")

Merely calling someone a 'sell out' is in no way constructive criticism. Saying "I really don't like Candidate X" is nothing more than your opinion and adds nothing to the conversation.

Hope that helps.

8. agreed, just as several democrats are running against each other during the primaries
So to are there avocates being active here on the boards. Once the candidate has been chosen we should stop attacking each other. If our candidate doesnt win, we will have to decide whether or not we wish to continue visiting this board before the general election.

12. what AM I if I dont agree with the candidate who wins the nomination?
-Am I not allowed to then post my opinions after that here on the DU?

That is not very democratic is it?
I thought that this was a place for organized, political chat with a slant towards democracy. Is that the case or is this a free platform for the DLC?

It is my belief that by open conversation and debate that we can vet our strengths and weaknesses. If we close our eyes to other possibilities, we are going to miss a lot of good ideas and become a very constricted community.

16. Not Agreeing Is One Thing. Advocating Against Their Election Is Another.
Regardless of who wins the nomination, members of this website are expected to support them being elected: Period.

17. I'll ask again
If my candidate does not win the nomination am I supposed to leave the DU?
Would you rather be surrounded by only people who have the exact same view as yourself? That doesnt leave any room for enlightenment or fresh ideas. When a person closes their mind they lose out on a lot of ideas and discussion. We should have seem by the freepers what happens when you close out people who do not share 100% of your ideas, you become ignorant and resort to name calling instead of political discussion. I would hope that we could continue to be a rich community of voices from many different areas of freedom loving people.
If the nomination is won in a 51% to 49% margin and the supporters of those who did not win the nomination are forced off of DU,the membership will be cut in half overnight. Any discourse or disagreement would see the poster getting "nuke blocked" and dropped. I hope that we can keep this going as long as possible and create a stronger, more knowledgeable citizen and activist base.

No.

But you better damn well not advocate against the candidate who did. Got it?

9. There isn't a candidate that I like yet
One that I feel is a change from the status quo.
I am ready for a change.
There is only one candidate that I cannot support in any form or fashion and still sleep at night.
I am not crazy about Obama, I feel he is too much of a corporatist--however, I am going to purchase his book and read it. I could vote for him.
I am not crazy about Hillary, because she is more of the same. I have purchased her book "The Unique Voice of Hillary Clinton" and plan on reading that. I could vote for her.
I like John Edwards. I don't love John Edwards. I could easily vote for him.
I like Wes Clark. I think I could learn to love Wes Clark, so no problems there.
But I am not committed to a candidate yet. There hasn't been anyone that has totally "wowed" me. I'm still waiting.
In the meantime, I will continue to give my opinions on the candidates out there.

11. Relax Xultar
It's only a year until the Democratic primary is officially in full swing. After that the focus will shift to the Repugs.

At this rate this is going to be a very long year.

18. I want it to be hard to choose a favorite because they're all good.
We've been taught to choose the lesser of evils for so long, we've lost the interest of the majority of voters. I want to want to vote for someone. I'm tired of voting against those that suck more than the one I pick. That's one of the reasons we end up with people like bush that people don't really talk about.
