With all of the "Anti-Surge" legislation that is being bantered around by our party and even some of their (John Warner comes to mind), it is quite interesting that the Surge has already begun in some respects. Soldiers all across the country are being sent their notices that they are being mobilized for this effort, while very few our our men and women already in the field are getting to come home. While many of them had oped that the Iraq Study Group and the Democratic takeover of Congress would give them some small inkling of hope that they actually get out of that hell on earth that we have created, they are instead faced with extensions or reactivations that were once illegal (National Guard). If there are no clearer parallels that Bush doesn't care one iota about our country or our military than his blatant disregard for the law and his hedging of executive powers that take YOUR voice in our government away.
We should be shouting at the top of our lungs to our representatives, especially the ones that think they are Presidential material (*ahem* Hillary), to get these troops home now. There should be a Surge out of Iraq instead of in! With polling suggesting that upwards of 70-75% of our nation opposing this war now (better late than never), the time is ripe for someone to step forward and demand that our government take every step necessary to end this occupation now. Give Iraq the support it needs to help itself, as it is apparent that our involvement in the country is only making things worse rather than better. It doesn't matter whether they voted for the war to begin with at this point, the paramount objective today is to recognize the wrong and correct it immediately.
