Cheney rumor WHY THEY delayed the shooting
SIRIUS Satellite Radio's Alex Bennett (SIRIUS Left Ch 146) just broke a rumor that the delay in reporting the news that Cheney shot err "peppered" 78-year-old Harry Whittington in the heart was due to an effort to hide or spin Cheney's female companion, Pamela Willeford. Pamela Willeford was part of the hunting excursion with Cheney and Whittington and was next to Cheney when the shooting of Whittington took place.

21. Or, as I've always heard they teach in boot camp...
This is my rifle
This is my gun
This one's for shooting
This one's for fun

(Usually shortly followed by "Now drop and give me twenty, maggot!")

2. And their evidence?
Just out of curiousity?

Obviously this has been speculated on here and elsewhere and is one of the more plausible theories.

28. I'd guess speculation on his wife and her husband not attending.
I'm sure that the sleeping arrangements will not be revealed easily.
But, Enquiring minds want to know.
And, if it had been true and become public, it would have levied its own immensly satisfyingly ironic justice.
Oh well. Back to Rolling Stones.

3. Not according to Darth himself
From his interview, it was just him and his prey.

There was just two of you then?

THE VICE PRESIDENT: Just two of us at that point. The guide or outrider between us, and of course, there's this entourage behind us, all the cars and so forth that follow me around when I'm out there -- but bird flushed and went to my right, off to the west. I turned and shot at the bird, and at that second, saw Harry standing there. Didn't know he was there --

while Cheney is holding the rifle. The groupies, err entourage, has fallen far behind. They know good old Harry wont give their secret away and boom. Cheney had his finger on the trigger as their lips parted. Good old Harry is shot through the heart.

6. How does the 14hr (or whatever) help spin that? More likely:
1. Cheney was sobering up in case of a blood alcohol test

2. They wanted to see of the victim was gonna die (in which case some EXTREME spin would be needed)

10. Meanwhile, no comment from Willeford as an eye witness
even though she was standing a hell of a lot closer than the Ranch Owner/Lobbyist. Willeford is NOWHERE to be found and when the reports first came out, she was described as "a third member of the party".

11. here is one quote
Pamela Willeford, the U.S. ambassador to Switzerland, another member of the hunting party, told The Dallas Morning News for a story in Tuesday's editions that she and Cheney didn't realize Whittington had picked up a bird and caught up with them.

Willeford said she has hunted with Cheney before and would again.

"He's a great shot. He's very safety conscious. This is something that unfortunately was a bad accident and when you're with a group like that, he's safe or safer than all the rest of us," she said.

from yahoo:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060214/ap_on_go_pr_wh/cheney_hunting_accident

but I've noticed she is referred to as the other hunter. ;) wink wink

So how on god's earth could Dick not know where Whittington was? He only had TWO PEOPLE to keep track of, and one was right next to him.

Found this earlier today. It's in an AP piece from Tuesday:

Willeford said she has hunted with Cheney before and would again.

22. You all are forgetting that cheney cannot function sexually.
The man is on his last legs health wise, due to serious, SERIOUS heart conditions. He's on massive amounts of medication and often on actual machinery to sustain his life.

The story stinks and it's not about the chicks so much as *something* else.

Something else is rotten in denmark. I don't know what it is, but I can't agree this is about a mistress for cheney.

Men who can't get it up don't have mistresses unless they're seriously professional sex act freaks that can provide alternative forms of "pleasure" and honey we don't even want to go there with some uptight republican whore who sold her soul to the bush regime for a cushy ambassador post.

It isn't about a mistress. I don't know what it *is* about, but that's off target.

I shall continue to ruminate.

30. Interesting. Ms. Willeford's husband was there also, BTW.
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/16/politics/16tock.html?_r=1&oref=slogi

The other guests were Ms. Willeford, the ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, and her husband, George, a physician in Austin; Ben Love, a West Texas rancher whom Ms. Armstrong called her "beau"; her sister, Sarita Hixon, a Houston museum chairwoman, and her husband, Bob, an insurance executive; Nancy Negley, an art philanthropist whose family once controlled Brown & Root, now a part of Halliburton; and Mr. Whittington, a 78-year-old Austin lawyer, Republican stalwart and presiding officer of the Texas Funeral Service Commission, and his wife, Mercedes.

At first Ms. Armstrong declined to say who besides Mr. Cheney and her sister had been her guests, but she provided the names after The Austin American-Statesman learned of Ms. Willeford's presence. Ms. Willeford spoke Monday by phone but declined to be interviewed again Wednesday. Mrs. Hixon and Ms. Negley did not respond to several messages.

All the guests were there by 6 p.m. Friday, Ms. Armstrong said. The others drove, but Mr. Cheney flew in with his Secret Service entourage; his wife, Lynne, had also been expected but could not come at the last minute, Ms. Armstrong said. Quartered in adjoining ranch houses, the group dined together Friday night and retired by about 10.

32. First of all, Alex Bennett is an absolute fucking moran.
That asshole was basically acting like he had some kind of info on this and he had broken the story, but the reality is that he or his staff probably read that rumor right here on DU (or Daily Kos). The average DU'er knows way more about the State of our Union than Alex Bennett. But because I sometimes listen to his show now that AAR is gone, I know all about his health issues, his girlfriend, what movie he saw last weekend, blah, blah, blah, blah. One of the most self absorbed people I've ever heard on the air and it pisses me off that he is on the Talk Left station. I change the channel on a regular basis because he hardly talks politics at all. And when he does he's usually woefully misinformed or days late with the info.

Secondly, this has now all be debunked. The NYT is reporting that there were several others along for the weekend including Mrs. Whittington.

Now, it doesn't mean that it's not important that Ms. Willeford was there. Turns out that Katherine Armstrong is a lobbyist who lobbies BushCo for at least one large Swiss company that received a lucrative contract from BushCo. There were Swiss-Texas connections all over that ranch. They were there on business. What piece of our tax dollar pie did they plan to slice off together for themselves? IMO, this is really the important angle we need to be investigating, outside of the actual circumstances of the shooting. Katherine Armstrong is a lobbyist.

Second Comment would be that though they would want to hide that as well, it is less likely to be a main reason for the delay as opposed to other theories put forth.
