Is it really Cheney who was behind the illegal wiretapping? David Addington and Cheney successfully put clamps in Gonzales. Why didn't they ask for permission for the wiretaps. Who was Cheney monitoring?

1. Making lists is helpful. The 'who' list is long. Start with Saudi Arabia.
In other words start with everything to do with their agenda -

1. In the diplomatic world. That's the job of the NSA, but they can expand it to anyone they want under their rules, including non-diplomats. They need to know that the Saudi Arabians are performing to their two-way agreements and that no one is threatening the rule of the House of Saud.

2. Get the idea? Just go down all the lines.

THEN - GET TO TDOMESTIC POLITICAL -

1. THEY ARE GOING TO LISTEN IN ON ANYONE WHO IS A THREAT TO THEIR RULE AND AGENDA.
2. THEY ARE GOING TO LISTEN IN TO ANYONE WHO THEY MIGHT BLACKMAIL TO PROTECT THEIR RULE AND AGENDA.
3. THEY ARE GOING TO LISTEN IN TO DETERMINE HOW TO EXPAND THEIR CONTROL ON PEOPLE.

It's one thing to decide that you want to rule the world.
It's another to get your batallions in place to rule.
It's another to maintain it and conduct specific battles.
And it is always an ongoing battle to silence people.

2. My suspicion is that Cheney and Karl Rove are the ones
behind the NSA spying. Their staffs as well, of course. I know Bush authorized it, and continues to do so, but the idea itself just seems to fit in very well with Cheney and Rove's demonstrated characters. I have no doubt they began by spying on political and perhaps business opponents, since the "program" (or crime, as it's known to supporters of the Constitution) began long before "9-11 opened our eyes to the threat of terrorism".

3. Bush went along with it because he equates everything to
'It's just politics.'

To Bush, anything is fair to accomplish his political victories. Since he can only be a Campaigner In Chief, he does not have any idea how to actually govern in accordance with the law.

4. You wonder how much Bush is involved in 'operations'
Cheney is definitely the surgeon. Bush seems like the guy at the front desk.
