I would love to know how bad MSNBCs ratings drop off precisely at 9:01 ET. I would guess there are thousands of us just on this board that watch Olbermann, and as soon as we hear Throaty McHuskington's nasty voice we grab the remote as quickly as possible to change it to anything else.

Thank goodness we have the NHL on OLN tonight! (Though I will of course be switching to a local channel to watch the Red Wings game once it begins at 10:30).

So: informal poll here for KO watchers:

do you turn off the TV when Olbermann is done, or
do you continue to watch Rita Cosby?

but my coworker who sits next to me can't get enough of the Aruba story - she is not a wingnut. My wingnust sisters can't get enough of this story. They aren't interested in the Abramoff scandal and other important news stories.

8. I think so, however I must admit I've never been

able to sit through more than about 20 minutes of her show. She is just awful on so many levels.

But, I did once realize that if you have a couple glasses of wine (fill in the adult beverage of your choice), she can be quite amusing to watch. She asks the most stupid questions imaginable. My favorite one she loves to pull out for the families of missing people: "how does this make you feel?"

I can't believe she has a TV show. She is not entertaining, not informative, and not highly attractive, not to mention grating on the ears and the nerves.

There's really no point to watching her program. I don't think Rita's a bad person or anything, and I'm kind of getting used to her voice - it's just that she seems so shallow, and the stories she covers are mostly tabloid-y trash.

The funniest thing about Rita is that she is included in Tweety's "heavy hitters" segment or whatever it's called - actually a promotional segment with MSNBC's struggling evening hosts. Tucker and Joe S are no geniuses, but Rita doesn't even seem to belong in their company. (I notice it is not considered necessary for KO to appear in these segments.)

I do think that Hardball and Countdown are the best 2 hours in TV news at the moment.

19. Sorry, I'd share if I could... score update for ya:

Colorado Avs are easily handling the Wild. They're up 3 to 1 just past the halfway point of the second period. The Wild are still relatively boring to watch... better than last season, but still kinda dull hockey IMO.

I'm switching to the Wings game on Fox Sports Detroit in 5 minutes. We're missing at least 5 starters tonight (5 were on the Swedish Olympic team, so they have the day off... and rumor has it that Datsyuk may have had problems getting back here in time for the game). It might be an interesting game vs. the Sharks (no idea if the Sharks goalie made it back to the US to start tonight).

14. I just happened to print the ratings from Feb tonight

from mediabistro site. During Feb in total viewers Rita lost 60,000 viewers from Countdown lead-in but still was up 17% from Feb 05. In the key Demo 25-54 age she lost 38,000 and was down -1% over Feb 05 same time period.

BTW Countdown is +38% from Feb '05 and +55% in Key Demo.

Oh and the good news is Ted Baxter(O' Reilly) is -7% and -21% in same group. Hannity & Colmes is -9% and -17%. Imagine if MSNBC had someone good in the 9PM slot to follow KO - bring back Donahue at 9!
