Poll question: Is Rolling Stone a FAR LEFT magazine?
Some co-worker, you know the type, a fence sitter...so principled:eyes: ...said this when he was talking about that article about The Church of Scientology. I took issue with that, saying I never read anything in it where they stated that they wanted to Government to make our shoes, and he said "Everybody knows that! You're just too far to the left to see it." Yesterday, he said Ted Kennedy murdered that woman in the sinking car. He's one of those who listens to Big Ed, and Rush to "get balance", even though he listens to Rush's inbred callers more than him, who he thinks is an idiot blowhard.:eyes:

Of course this poll isn't going to to be scientific, since you're all nothing but a bunch of pinko, commie hippies and queers, but I'd like to know if "Everybody knows" that RS is a far left magazine.

3. Jann Wenner at CAL Berkeley in the sixties was always to the left
Edited on Wed Mar-01-06 03:24 PM by Zinfandel
with slightly radical ideology, but he was never really active politically...Still, Wenner always had a kinship with liberal politics, John Lennon has always been one of his favorite people. When Wenner left San Francisco and took Rolling Stone to NY publishing circles and now living out in the Hampton's with other rich "liberals", perhaps his views have gotten a bit less liberal...

Still I'm happy Rolling Stone has always been on the left and liberal on almost all issues...you'll never see RS supporting a republican....

Jann Wenner: Newspapers/magazines are only as liberal as their owners and executive editor, the liberal Werner is both for RS.

4. I just started subscribing again-definitely Left
The political articles are definitely on the left. Of course, you have to get past pics of half naked, untalented singers like Mariah Carey to read them.

5. In 1971 it was, not now
RS seems comfortably center to me now, but of course in this day and age that equates to left.

7. You'll never see RS endorse a republican though, ever!
RS does support democratic candidates and liberal issues.

9. I think of The Nation, Utne, and Mother Jones.
RS has supported every recent Democratic Presidential nominee without question. They fall in line like mainstream Democrats. Not far left.

18. No, but he will tomorrow!

The reason is that a third co-worker has this "I'd rather hunt with Dick than drive with Ted" bullshit on his desk (which I defaced with "Total Bullshit!"...but I printed him out a new one anyway...and no I'm not an asshole. He does it just to bait me!), so "Rolling Stone is FAAAAAAAAAAAAR left" guy went off on the tangent that he killed that woman in 1968, and if he wasn't a Kennedy then his career would've been over in 1969. Just goes to show that if you repeat "18 hour gaps in time" and "FBI redacted police reports" enough, then the GOP lie creators succeeded in poisoning the well.

17. He used to. I haven't read them in a decade though.
Seattle grunge wasn't my thang. I do know that Tom Wolfe wrote Bonfire of the Vanities as a serial for them in the 80s, and he's further to the right than the DLC.

15. Near left.
There have been many scathing articles on the bush admin, but the pop-media culture in it takes it back toward the center/mainstream.

16. It was pretty far left when it started
But it's strayed away from its roots and got commercialized. They drifted towards snooty and anal. Or at least they were the last time I read them. Which would be at least 10 years ago.

By modern standards President Johnson would be judged far left.
