If you were face to face with Bush would you call him "Mr. President"?
You know all his friends and everybody else who comes into contact with him are required to call him that. He gets all puffed up when they call him "Mr. President" and if you don't he says, "That's Mr. President."

because he's surrounded by goons bristling with guns and worse. I would, of course, be struck mute by rage.

Speaking up under these conditions isn't worth it.

His presence in the office is a usurpation, and the title is not his. Any who use it do a disservice to our country and its liberties and traditions.

26. this country HAS NO RESPECT for the office because we
continue to allow an UNELECTED person be our president. And a vile evil one at that! If we really had respect for the office, there would have been MILLIONS marching on the Supreme Court in 2000.

Just my 2 cents

. . . if he thinks I'M addressing him in by a title he didn't earn, one I didn't give him via my vote, out of respect of an office he's currently shitting all over. I doubt I'd even shake his hand, knowing his administration's lies sent two of my friends to a desert to experience way more shit than I'd ever wish on my worst enemy.

This has nothing to do with respect for the office, it's a matter of prinicple. Until he starts doing something positive for people rather than for corporations, the Pentagon and various sheikdoms, it would be like concessing my principles to call that fucktard "the President".

96. I find it so inappropriate when he calls heads of state by first name.
He does this at joint press conferences. To me it really shows serious disrespect for their country, all the more so since he demands 'Mr' for himself.

100. I've heard he gets all snippy when people call him "President Bush"
If so, I would gladly refer to him as that, with a brief but significant pause just before "President".

"Mr. Bush", which is a perfectly acceptable form of address for an American male who is past the age of 10, would be my second choice.

116. I've pisssed off way better men than that SOB by refusing to
address them with their putative 'titles.' But I'm a genuine iconoclast...I refuse to call an ex-military person "colonel, general", etc. Hell, even when I was in the military I called most all higher grade officers by their first names. Goes for priests as well, I refuse to call anyone 'father' who ain't my father. Bah, humbug. I'd probably say something like "Hi George, you're shorter than you look on TV"

Wouldn't it be great if the cameras caught someone looking all crestfallen when "I'm just a regular guy" Dubya expects bowing and scraping like some kind of East Coast Elitist?

p.s. my mom is in complete agreement with you, about why she wouldn't address clergy as "father"!

I'd be sorely tempted to do this as I was leaving:
