Bush didn't ask a single question in Aug. 29 Katrina briefing

But assured the country we were "prepared." Read it and weep, America:

WASHINGTON - In dramatic and sometimes agonizing terms, federal disaster officials warned President Bush and his homeland security chief before Hurricane Katrina struck that the storm could breach levees, risk lives in New Orleans' Superdome and overwhelm rescuers, according to confidential video footage of the briefings.

-snip-

Bush didn't ask a single question during the final government-wide briefing the day before Katrina struck on Aug. 29 but assured soon-to-be-battered state officials: "We are fully prepared."

-snip-

Bush declared four days after the storm, "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees" that gushed deadly flood waters into New Orleans. But the transcripts and video show there was plenty of talk about that possibility — and Bush was worried too.

1. Bush was distracted. Too busy daydreaming about his upcoming vacation...
...to be concerned about a silly little Cat 5 hurricane headed towards New Orleans.

No really, I'm serious here - I'll bet anything that fucking numbskull was daydreaming about his vacation, hence no questions from * during the briefing.

of performing the duties of his office.

Should we be surprised?

Paul O'Neill said B*sh was like a "blind man in a room full of deaf people" at Cabinet meetings. One can only wonder how he comports himself when meeting with foregin leaders without notes, cue cards and telePrompters... he even needs permission from Condi Rice to go pee-pee. The man spouts slogans and regurgitates the same tired cliches, swaggers and quips... but that is it. He truly does not know what the fuck he is doing. And he never misses his 9:30 bed time.

5. I was thinking about this yesterday-it's like a hands-off CEO that
hopes other people will do jobs without his involvement and without him having to follow up or keep tabs. While I don't like companies where the CEO is in everyone's face, successful companies MUST know what's going on. He doesn't.

3. Incurious George
Paul O'Neill, former Sec. of the Treasury said Bush lacked curiosity. O'Neill said he was shocked that Bush never asked questions about the topics on which he was briefed.
