Somber map of the service men, women who have died in Iraq & Afghanistan

I don't know if this has been posted before, but it's a map that has a marker for each soldier killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. If you click on a marker it shows each soldier from that town or city, who they were, the type of incident they were killed in, etc. There's a zoom menu on the left that you might have to use for the larger circles, which represent metropolitan areas.

Warning: For anyone who's been directly affected by the death of a soldier in Iraq or Afghanistan, it might be a little overwhelming for you when you click on his or her marker. I know it was for me.

3. It really does. For example, if you click on Casey Sheehan's marker

or if you do a search under the "Share your condolences" link, it adds a whole new dimension of reality and sadness to the event, just by seeing his or her name, personal background, and reading their guest book. It's one thing to hear how many soldiers have been killed, but it's another to see the actual details on each one's life. Very sad.

Of course, Texas is one of the Evil Red States. We've lost quite a few.

(Why do so many who dismiss whole areas of the country as "Fly Over" fail to include their location in their profiles?)

I looked up one of our National Guardsmen who was killed in Iraq. It really does bring it home again.

The first one I looked up was a young friend of mine who was killed in Afghanistan. After all the tears me and my family shed for him 2 1/2 years ago, I didn't think I could shed anymore, but in clicking on his marker here I found that I had a few more left.
