Job offer just came in my e-mail....

Still don't know the status of my job yet, but this "job offer" just arrived in my e-mail. Sounds like something "phishy" to me but thought it so fits our new job market, I couldn't resist passing it on.


"Dear..........

I would like to offer you a challenging and well-paid employment opportunity. An International Marketing Research Organization recruits self-motivated and reliable individuals, willing to take part in well-paying research studies conducted for leading US and international businesses. Your opinion as a consumer is important for the success and profitability of many business ventures. That is why they are ready to pay generously for what you think.

You can earn from $300 to $550 a week for participating in online surveys, focus group discussions, and product/service evaluations. Become part of our Marketing Research Organization and earn:

from $5 to $100 for participating in on-line surveys
from $30 to $150 for participating in product/service evaluations
from $50 to $250 for participating in virtual focus group discussions


For your work, you will need just a computer with Internet connection and a valid e-mail address. You will decide when to work and which surveys to take while enjoying the comfort of your room. If you like the job, you can keep it as long as you want!"

1. "Make $500/day by stuffing envelopes" --- that's a better job!

2. Very deceptive.

I've looked into these things. Very few pay you outright cash for your efforts. Most are sites where you rack up "points" where you can then shop on the Internet through their own affiliates. Also, most of the time you have to wait until the surveys come to YOU - there's no site where you just go and do the survey and them BAM, you get the cash.

Furthermore, be prepared for an ONSLAUGHT of junk email. Once you start these affiliate survey "jobs," they just keep 'comin and never stop. I STILL get at least 15 junk emails a day, even though I ask to unsubscribe each day! I think the main reason companies do this is advertising. Most "jobs" pay between $1 and $5. But for that price, they can advertise to millions while only paying pennies.

As usual, they make it sound SO EASY but in reality it's a sham.

4. I do surveys for one company, though.

Every couple of months, I'll do a survey and get paid $5. Then quite often, they will send me full-sized products to try and give my opinion on and then I receive another $5.

5. Those companies are few and far betweeen.

What's the name of the company? Do you have a link? I'd like to see it.

My point is that they promise you $200 a week, but in reality the jobs only pay between $1 and $5 - most of the time not in cash, but in "points" where you can only make purchases through their own affiliates. So you'd have to do a hell of alot of surveys, etc. to make that much per week. And there aren't that many projects available, unless you look at 75 survey websites per day.

9. Pinecone Research

They are a legit company and they pay for every survey you participate in. Signing up with them is the hard part because they only solicit through advertising banners and they don't tell anyone where their banner will appear or when. That way, they do get a true cross representation of people. I used to do them years ago myself and they send the check often before you even get the notice to participate in the survey.

3. Yes, and it will only cost you $39.95 for the info

on where to find those companies to take the surveys. Get e-mails like that all the time. It's a scam.

A scam for sure. You can search the internet yourself and come up with the same info.

7. Don't even open those types of messages

They can be loaded with spy ware and other damaging scripts.

8. My wife does a number of surveys for various companies

and gets checks in the mail for between 5 and 50 dollars on a fairly regular basis.

Don't know about this particular "opportunity" but I do know there are ones that are reputable.

12. Run! However...

I once got a legit job offer in my email--it can happen. But the only way I would ever trust something like this is if: 1) I knew my email was listed with one of those job-seeking sites (like Monster.com or something) or 2) In my case, my email was in my bio at the end of an article that this person read.
