We should bring back the OEO (Office of Economic Opportunity)
This agency existed between 1964-74. It housed such government programs as Head Start (a great program), Community Action (a fiasco), Job Corps (good program) and VISTA (great program). This agency was the agency that ran most of LBJ's War on Poverty programs. But it was very controversial and disliked by a lot of local (Democratic) politicians. Nixon shut down OEO late in 1973, but even he kept most of its programs; he transferred them to other agencies.

I like the idea of having a single government agency whose mission is fighting poverty and lack of economic opportunity. We could use something like this again.
