Make a committment to do one action OFF the computer.

I believe that one of the problems we face as internet activists (and we have done some GOOD work!) -is that we can become disconnected with our local grassroots efforts and outside on the ground community involvement. This is especially true in non-election years when the lack of structured campaign work leaves us a little scattered to the wind.

I think that it would be a huge step, if the internet community used their vast internet savy and knowledge as serve as educational leaders on political issues in their local communities. I have suggested forming a curriculum on voting & election fraud & reform issues and then taking it to the people. This is just one idea.

Right now, we ARE in a election year, so the opportunities for grassroots work abound. It is too late for most to run for delegate seats for their candidates, but those campaigns need volunteers aplenty.

You can also pick any issue that you feel passionate about and committ to spend a few hours a week or month dedicated to that particular cause. Only catch is that some of the time doing the work must be on the ground in your community.

1. Come join us on election reform. Most of us are serious activists and we
can certainly use help!

5. I just got notice that I've been approved to be a delegate
for my County Democratic Party Convention next weekend. It will be my first. I went to the caucuses meeting two weeks ago (again my first) and had no idea what to expect. I will be a Section Coordinator to the Precinct Leaders (about 6) for the election and I have also volunteered to be a Precinct Leader for a particular candidate who is running for a local Assembly position. He's running against a fundie right winger and I promised a loooong time ago (actually, the day he won in 2004) that I would vow to help upseat this guy. I'm just glad my friend is running against him -- he's a great candidate.

Anyway, I agree. We should all get involved locally. It has made me feel more productive.
