Police: Teen Burned Alive Over Pregnancy
Police: Teen Burned Alive Over Pregnancy

POSTED: 12:02 am EST March 3, 2006
UPDATED: 11:33 am EST March 3, 2006

A 20-year-old man in Ocoee, Fla., was charged with murder after he confessed to pouring gasoline over his ex-girlfriend and then setting her on fire because she may have been pregnant, police told Local 6 News.

Winter Garden police officers investigating a report of a car fire noticed a small fire on the east side of County Road 545 on Feb. 25.

When officers extinguished the flames, they found the body of Amelia Sookdeo, 17, burned beyond recognition.

Sookdeo was reported missing by her mother earlier the same day after she left her home through a window without her parents' knowledge.

2. I have no idea how women in those third world countries get through it
seriously with this sort of thing and the horrible abuses it amazes me. It really is a testament to the human spirit that they continue on in their daily lives.

Before you post yeah I did read that it was in Florida I was being sarcastic.

13. Yep. Xian.
Dane Abdool.

She may not have been pregnant. But odds are he thought so.

Ex-boyfriend. If she was pregnant, may not have been his.

Killing the woman who's not faithful to protect one's honor isn't something completely unheard of, even among white Calvinist-leaning fundamentalists of North German extraction, like this guy obviously was.

People can't even bother to click on a link these days.

16. If it were someone else's kid, that would at least make sense
in a sick, twisted kind of way. I was confused because the article doesn't say one way or the other. Maybe more information will come out later.

27. Or at least if he thought she was having
somebody else's.

It'll be interesting--in a sort of sick, rabble-rousing way--to see if she was really pregnant. Or if the guy was just over jealous.

10. Florida again. What's up with that?
I have used this same headline (usually with "n/t" behind it) about a dozen times, because it's on the "quick fill" feature in which you type a few letters and it writes, "Florida again. What's up with that?" I'm finding that far more bizarre stories come out of that state than from anywhere else.

12. I've said it before and I'll say it again - Florida in a nutshell
Watch the old re-runs of America's Most Wanted.

a large percentage of people committed these crimes all over the country and were APPREHENDED in Florida.

What attracts them to my state? Please help me out here.

Polk County is downright weird.

21. It's not statutory rape.
If the adult is older than the juvenile by three years or less, it's not statutory rape.

This fellow was 20, his girlfriend was 17 - three years.

The same can be said that a 19 can date a 16 year old and so on.

25. How sick. And this is going to be happening more.
In SD and MI, I bet there will be a rise in homicides of pregnant women, because the men who got them pregnant won't want to be responsible for the baby, and the woman won't be able to get an abortion because of the dark ages laws they just passed.
