5. Raise terror threat level
"Terrorist poultry have intercepted our borders. The British Government has learned that these birds recently sought significant quantities of their kin from KFC."

9. Nobody could have predicted
that the chicken would cross the road.

Meanwhile, doesn't Rummy control the company that makes the antiviral drug? It's a win/win!

10. Read The Stand by Stephen King.
I think you'll see a pretty good idea of how our "leaders" would handle such a situation.

11. they'll try to minimize it at first
the amount of bird deaths and infections will be underreported and basically nothing effective or useful will happen if the Bush administration is controlling the response. I worry a lot about the poor -- not just the ones who work at the poultry plants or in the towns that depend on them, but the poor in general. The price of poultry will go way up, if it's available at all, which means that other forms of protein will also become more expensive. If that eventually drives up even the cost of beans to where the poorest can't afford them, then what?

And that's only problems related to extant strains of H5N1... with a human-to-human strain added to the mix, the potential for BushCo to screw up is exponentially higher.

Insofar as I am aware, reptiles cannot contract the avian flu.
