Bush refers to Pakistan as an Arab country
The sensitivity of U.S. relations in this region could be measured in one misspoken word that Bush delivered in a televised speech to the Indian people before leaving New Delhi. Bush, standing just after dusk before the warmly spotlighted gate of a 16th Century fortress, praised India's partnership with the U.S. and said that Pakistan "will be a steadfast partner…. A force for freedom and moderation in the Arab world."

White House spokesman Scott McClellan later had to explain aboard Air Force One en route to Pakistan that Bush meant to say "Muslim world" {ndash} uncomfortably noting that Pakistan is not an Arab nation. Another White House official said it was a simple error on the president's part {ndash} "He misspoke."

55. There were 2 authors involved in that book. . .
William Lederer, a US Navy officer and Eugene Burdick, a professor at UC Berkeley.

Lederer also went on to write 2 other books detailing our ignorance in foreign affairs:
"A Nation of Sheep" - in which he specifically takes the MSM to task.
"Our Own Worst Enemy" - about Vietnam, when he was there in 1967, shortly before the "Tet Offensive" of 1968.

You can learn more about these books at Amazon.

If there is any doubt whatsoever in your mind about that (attn: lurking freepers), just look at the expressions on the faces of people who surround him at photo ops when he's visiting other countries. The predominant look is that of doubt but there are also smirks. I'm guessing these might be the more sophisticated in the group, just waiting for him to barf on the prime minister's lap like his father did or make some remark such as the one this discussion is about.

He's a freak show, courtesy of the U.S. taxpayers.

34. Early in his presidency, his people floated stories about how he really
was quite intelligent. E.g., the word was (as read in Time or Newsweek) that Bush only sounds ditzy because he's trying to speak down to his target audience in the red states, and that if you talk to Bush in private about subjects he's interested (sports, politics, business), he sounds intelligent. But I reached the conclusion -- if they have to float stories about how intelligent he is, there's a problem. Nobody ever had to argue that Clinton, Gore or Kerry were really quite intelligent.

49. He is not a nice guy, it is true. He's a spoiled little prick.
I remember the Newsweek article about how he is more intelligent than he seems: it also said he's not as nice a person as he seems in public. Scary -- he comes across as arrogant and vulgar.

The truth is that he is reasonably intelligent; it was reported in 2000 that his SAT score was in the high 1200s, which at the time put you in about the top 5% of the population (an SAT of 1250 was supposed to correlate with an IQ score of 125; I recall the median SAT was 1000 and the standard deviation 150, while IQ scores are designed to have median 100 and standard deviation 15). However, Bush has been a heavy drinker, and it has been suggested that this has degraded his mental abilities, as heavy alcholism will do. See Bush on the Couch. His verbal skill in his debates with Ann Richards back in the early 1990s appears to be markedly better than his performance in debates in the last election.

both start w/ A Africa & Asia
both have "brown people"
both Pakistan and Arab countries have thriving "democracies"

Besides geography is not bush's strong suit, as seen from the following:

But we've got a big border in Texas, with Mexico, obviously -- and we've got a big border with Canada -- Arizona is affected.
-- No matter how you slice it, this statement is geographically challenged, Washington, D.C., Jun. 24, 2004 (dubyaspeak.com)

50. This is just f***ing sad....
...there's not even any outrage in the MSM for the simple reason that Dubya's a boorish idiot, everybody on both sides of the fence know that Dubya's a boorish idiot, and he's set the bar so low for himself that this type of affront to our allies is almost acceptable. Could you imagine the outrage from the right if Clinton had made that same mistake? Damn, I miss having a competent president.

When * says that it is like Ron Burgundy in front of a teleprompter and he will read anything put in front of him without thinking.

We, as Democrats, need to infiltrate his teleprompter team and have him give a speech:

"Thank you for coming here tonight America. Actually I guess all of America isn't here since I carefully screen everyone because I can not stand any dissent at all. I do appreciate those who are joining in from home since all we have done, since we took office, is screw all of you up the ass. You are all so funny. Carl and I sit down every night and laugh at how you have let us get away with gutting the whole country from the economy to outsourcing jobs to purposely letting all those people in New Orleans die. Good night America and fuck you all, my bank account is filled to the gills."

"And therefore, Gentlemen, I am confident that we can sell this to our Congress in the interest of the United States. At the same time, make it clear that there is a way forward for other nations to participate in civilian nuclear power in such a way as to address non-proliferation concerns. India has chartered the way forward. You heard the Prime Minister talking about going to the IAEA. So that group exists to help safeguard the world from proliferation. Because listen….. I proposed the processing agreements. That stands in stark contrast to the current nuclear theology that we shouldn’t reprocess for proliferation concerns.?

Bush speaking to Algerians: "It's good to know you are cherishing your French Heritage."

Bush to the Palestinians: "Here in this holy Judeo-Christian land...we come as partners in peace <wink, wink, nudge nudge...>"

Bush to izzybeans: "America is a Christian nation, founded by Christians...that's my culture and heritage and so let's keep it that way."

Izzybeans to Bush: "That's one logical step away from a KLan rally Mr. President, just add white Christian nation to the slogan and your wearing white bed sheets. Good night and good luck. Don't fuck it up too bad."

70. WTF is a "mcCurry meal"?
anyone got a clue what century this dimshit lives in?

"For many years, the United States and India were kept apart by the rivalries that divided the world," he said. "That's changed … The United States and India, separated by half the globe, are closer than ever before… Americans who come to this country will see Indian consumers buying McCurry Meals from McDonald's… All that separates a business in Bangalore from a business in Boston is an email, a text message."

...all that seperates a business in Bangalore and a business in Boston is.....pay, you stupid idiot.

DUMBEST PRESIDENT EVER. There is no doubt about it. History will not be kind to this maroon.

Yes, I checked the WH website and bush did indeed say "mcCurry meal":
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/03/20060303-5.html

Apparently, there is such a thing as a "McCurry pan" at McDonald's India. After googling "mcCurry meal" I found this:
http://mcdonalds.net.in/mcd/corp/OurFood/our_food.php?id=98&menu=2

Or do you suppose he meant McCurry as in Mike McCurry?

85. Seems there's no end to his ignorance
here are some more of his mistakes.

'he's raised eyebrows in recent months by calling Greeks "Grecians," Kosovars "Kosovians," confusing Slovenia and Slovakia, wondering whether Russia was still attacking Chechnya and failing a television reporter's quiz on the names of four overseas leaders.'

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/intl/article/0,9171,1107991206-36071,00.html

I guess it's too much to ask to have a President who knows something about other cultures.

89. Last night, to emphasize how dumb Bush really is, Bill Maher explained
something. He mentioned how The Shrub talks down to the press during conferences when explaining things, as if the press were stupid. That's most likely because it is exactly how things are explained to him.

BTW.... To call Pakistan an Arab country is totally unexcusable. Also, to play footsies with a dictator, with a horrible human rights record, is also inexcusable. But why should Pakistan be different than anyone else the Shrub aligns us with????

and claimed he didn't know it was an offensive ethnic slur. ignorant dumbass.

If you're curious, PAKISTAN is a loosely formed acronym from: Punjab, Afghan, Kashmir, Indus, Sindh, and baluchiSTAN.

For the record, the arab world ends at Iraq. Keep heading east and you find Persians in Iran. Pakistan is definitely more attached politically and culturally to South Asia rather than the arab world.
