ANIMATIONS: Open to new ideas!
Edited on Fri Mar-03-06 09:43 PM by Ava
As some of you may know, I create animations for my website I have made 70+ so far and have been trying out some new ideas. If anyone has any suggestions or comments please let me hear them!

Here are a few of my animations:

1. Uh, when I click on the links for the animations,
I get an MSN page of ads. I'll look at your website and see if I can find the animations there.

2. Your links don't take you to your website
They take you to an MSN webpage advertising things. All links are doing the same thing.

12. Well I think it's important to win this war of words going on now.
The right is great at taking an out of context quote and driving it into the ground to score points AGAINST us. Hillary said "plantations" Kerry sadi "global test", Dean said,, Gore said etc etc etc.

Well what about Coulter suggesting we poison a supreme court justice? Seems a lot worse. How about some of the Righties who suggest killing Micheal Moore etc. There are a ton of examples. O'Reilly calling the police on his caller who mentions Olberman, for example.

It is so old. The media doesn't help us, they hurt their fellow Americans again and again with this deceptive crap.

SO my suggestion #1 (among hundreds) is to bring this problem to light. The media has not been fair to Democrats by repeating utter bullshit. They use the appeal of ridicule against us, plain and simple. Is this "REPORTING?"

Description of Appeal to Ridicule

The Appeal to Ridicule is a fallacy in which ridicule or mockery is substituted for evidence in an "argument." This line of "reasoning" has the following form:

1. X, which is some form of ridicule is presented (typically directed at the claim).
2. Therefore claim C is false.

This sort of "reasoning" is fallacious because mocking a claim does not show that it is false. This is especially clear in the following example: "1+1=2! That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard!"

7. This is Truth
Good, quick overview of lies. Lincoln quote at the end very good. I understood the link between lying to get us into war and impeachment, but I don't know if the guy on the street would. They would appreciate the small bits of information, though-I've found that if I give my coworkers too much information, they stop listening. Knowing that they have kids in their early teens, I could see this being an effective animation for them if they were thinking along the lines of what might very well happen to their kids (I've found my co-workers very insular in their thinking-if they don't see a direct link to their family, they tend not to pay attention). Perhaps another animation taking off from this one, talking about how depleted our armed forces are, how Bush is cutting student loans so kids are nearly forced to join the military, how Bush & co keep saying this war will last for years, if not decades---that would be a powerful animation for me to share with my coworkers.

8. Dead Wrong
VERY POWERFUL. This grabbed me from the first frame, and was most effective, I think, because of the beginning photos and then using audio clips of the criminals telling their lies. The most effective was Bush saying that there were no WMDs. I could see showing this to my co-workers and they couldn't object that "liberals" were the only ones saying that. Best yet. On to the last one!

9. Loved the first two.
Edited on Fri Mar-03-06 10:00 PM by MercutioATC
The last didn't work for me, but perhaps I'm not the target demographic.

The first was damn near perfect.

I have a couple of suggestions (definitely NOT criticisms) for the second:

1) Make "LIES" pulse in tempo with the music.

2) You didn't use the two pictures that are absolutely the MOST powerful Iraqi civilian pictures to me. The first is the older Iraqi man carrying a dead girl who looks to be 7 or 8 years old (her right foot has been blown off). The second is the 8 or 9 year old Iraqi girl whose parents were killed by U.S. forces in a raid on their home...it's a small girl sitting on the ground, covered in blood and screaming, illuminated by lights from U.S. troops. If you don't know which pics I'm talking about, I'll dig them up and forward them to you. They're graphic as hell, but they choke me up every time I see them.

GREAT work!!!

Lies does pulse in tempo with the music in my browser.. hmm... odd...

i have those two images on my computer but i don't like to put terribly graphic photos in my animations because i prefer to show people's emotions. i might use the second photo though.

thanks again!

I love your site and I will be watching your animations and reading your words for a long time to come. You have such a knack for matching the music to the picture to grab your viewer. And by the way, you have great taste in music!

11. Stand Up
photos very moving. I did have trouble hearing Dr. King's speech over the music-the music overwhelmed the speech in parts and I couldn't catch all the words. My hearing isn't 100%, but thought you'd like to know this as I'm sure others with hearing loss might have difficulties with the audio.

They haven't seen it yet on the Huffington post. Ok, maybe I've watched more than 20 times, but I kept on hitting replay to hear the music. I think it is very effective.

19. my mom pointed something out to me in one of my animations
she pointed out that i tend to pick pictures that focus around a person's eyes. i usually do this without even realising it. for example on of my favorite photos is of a boy standing in the middle of an abandoned street. it may not sound terribly touching, but the grief and weariness in his eyes is heartbreaking.

30. It's artist's intuition.
As an artist (non-artists, please don't read this, it'll spoil the fun) your main (and most difficult job) is to assemble a bag of tricks - "dirty" tricks to manipulate the emotions of your audience. I'm a composer, and truly I mean this in a positive way. The job of an artist is to manipulate emotions, and your audience loves you for it.

The point I'm making is that you have intuitively (and in some cases deliberately I'm sure) hit on some very powerful emotional triggers. You also assemble them in an effective way. And then we watch and cry. Beautiful.
