NRA Loses “Guns at Work” In Florida By Art Hayhoe, Florida Gun Coalition
In one of their former strongholds, the NRA recently tried to pass a “Guns at Work” bill, that would have made it illegal for employers to ban guns in their workplaces. Even moreso than the rest of the NRA’s suggested legislation, this bill would have advanced their agenda at the cost of the public’s safety, and so it’s almost no surprise that, under heavy pressure from those against gun violence and business advocates, the bill didn’t even see the light of day. In fact, before the bill died, the NRA even suggested two even crazier ideas: a “gun parking lot,” and a “gun room” in every workplace. Art Hayhoe is with the Florida Gun Coalition, and reports on what went wrong for the NRA, and right for Florida’s citizens.
Marion Hammer is the NRA’s main representative in Florida, but Hayhoe says that even though she and the NRA walked into the room thinking they could easily walk away with this dangerous bill, things didn’t go so easily for them.
“These ideas got silly and stupid. But this was how bad the NRA wanted any type of bill to pass. One other amendment was to exempt organization supported by tax dollars leaving the requirement only for private firms. The committee asked Baxley how he could justify forcing half of Americans business to comply while letting the other half off the hook! Even the Republicans who normally voted for her bill tore it apart. ----------------------snip------------------------------------
A "gun parking lot" and a "gun room"? They should put Phil Hendrie in charge of the NRA.
