"The Earth Is Melting At Both Ends"

This is just terrifying....

March 2, 2006 — For the first time, scientists have confirmed Earth is melting at both ends, which could have disastrous effects for coastal cities and villages.

Antarctica has been called "a slumbering giant" by a climate scientist who predicts that if all the ice melted, sea levels would rise by 200 feet. Other scientists believe that such a thing won't happen, but new studies show that the slumbering giant has started to stir.

Recent studies have confirmed that the North Pole and the South Pole have started melting.

Experts have long predicted that global warming would start to melt Greenland's two-mile-thick ice sheet, but they also thought the more massive ice sheet covering Antarctica would increase in the 21st century.


It seems they were wrong.

Two new studies find that despite the increasing snowfall that comes with global warming as a result of the increased moisture in the air, Antarctica's ice sheets are losing far more than the snow is adding.

3. At one time Antartica was without ice. The human race survived.

Could make all the seaport cities like New Orleans with levees around all of them.

11. If the Antarctic cap melts...

...the sea levels rise 240 feet. Greenland will contribute to it as well although not as much. The Arctic cap is already in the drink so it won't affect sea levels.

At any rate, with a rise of 240 feet, levees will be out of the question and most of Louisiana will be beneath the waves.

Find a topographical map and draw a blue line at the 240 altitude mark to see what the new coastline will look like.

Most of the world's major cities will be in big trouble.

4. Before long we will have the choice of......

....being flooded out because we live near a major water way (I'm along the Mississippi) or being baked by the sun constantly because we live in an arid area.:shrug: Oh but according to Bush there is nothing to global warming.:grr:

5. I used to think this was not going to happen for decades.

But it seems we are right on the brink of the precipice: Europe freezing due to a shut down of the gulf stream, America becoming a vast waterless desert, disappearing great coastal cities, hurricanes and tornadoes of previously unknown ferocity, mass die outs of species....and the list goes on and on.

Other sentient species may kill another's biological young, but rarely, deliberately, their own. Our cerebellums have not evolved far enough to control our brain stems. Unfortunately our increased mental power has allowed us us to get very creative with expressing primitive aggressive urges.
