Bush and the politics of pettiness...

He came into power with a minority of the popular vote. It was the most controversial election in the history of the nation. What was the first thing he did? He declares that he will govern as if he had a "mandate". Despite all his rhetoric, he decided that it was going to be his way or the highway. He let his appointees know that he demanded complete loyalty if they were going to work for him.

Then 9/11 happened. He had a second chance to not only unite the country but to unite the world. But, he blew it. It had to be about "him". His petty nature and his penchant for secrecy and division took a heavy toll on our nation. When once asked if he had ever made a mistake, he could think of none.

Now, he finds himself on the bottom. He could appeal for "bi-partisan" help with the multitude of problems facing our nation. But, he's a "leader". He knows what's best for all of us. Meanwhile, we continue the dangerous and unpredictable slide into reality.

They all want it all for and about them, and no one else is important.

2. He really did have a window there after 911

where he could have done great things. Instead, he went all terra, terra, terra on us. He did us no favors.

I'll bet he'd really like to just go away now. Maybe have a little heart attack or something so he could quit and save face.

But then that fantasy is replaced by the concept of Mr. Sneerdly, the VP. We got to get past the next 3 years. We can do it. We can do it.

3. And because of his pettiness and selfishness

he has badly tarnished our reputation around the world. I can think of no other president who would coldly turned his back on a natural disaster in the U.S. He is a complete failure and we all are suffering the consequences.

6. I don't recall ANY public figure who had to be constantly CALLED a leader

over and over again. I began to notice it very early on. It just amazed me. Back before I knew for certain that he was being deliberately pumped up by not only his administration flaks but by most figures in the media. It was such a disconnect, between what I was seeing with my own eyes and what was being called leadership, admiringly, in the press. I even sat here one day and started to google "leadership", to see what it entailed, to see if there was something I was missing.

It definitely depressed me, that reporters & commentators were hitting the leadership thing so hard. They knew, dammit. They knew they couldn't "show" so they had to "tell" us. That this pitiful excuse for a president had any qualifications at all to be in the position the Supreme Court installed him in. Well, finally the chickens are coming home to roost. Finally everybody is acknowledging that those aren't clothes, that's not leadership, the emperor really is naked.
