Blackwell posts thousands of Social Security numbers online In Ken Blackwell's stump speech (you know, the one with the angry rhetoric and divisive language) he eventually gets around to talking about the need to create jobs. And now, thanks to a massive screw up at his Secretary of State's office, Blackwell might have created a lot of jobs - jobs for data thieves, hackers and con artists.
It was revealed yesterday that Blackwell's office has been posting the Social Security numbers of Ohioans in a number of documents on his website. Documents that many fear may number in the thousands.
Ohio Democrats renewed their call yesterday for Republican Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell to remove Social Security numbers from certain documents available on his Web site. Blackwell said that’s not feasible right now.
"Secretary Blackwell needs to admit a mistake was made, correct it for the sake of Ohioans’ right to privacy and prevention of fraud and move on," said Senate Democratic leader C.J. Prentiss, of Cleveland.
Blackwell's office responded by telling reporters that examining each of the scanned documents and removing the social security numbers would take too much time right now.
