Norman Blake's "Don't be afraid of the neocons"
From time to time I post new music that has the activist feeling of the 60's (last one was Folk Uke's (Amy Nelson & Cathy Guthrie, Willie & Arlo's daughters) "Shit makes the flowers grow").

I've been meaning to post this one for a few weeks, but keep forgetting. Well, my local folk station just played it and I was online, so.........

If you are a fan of folk/bluegrass/flattop picking, you are aware of legendary guitarist & Nashville-based Norman Blake. He has a new album, BACK HOME IN SULPHUR SPRINGS. One of the songs is DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE NEOCONS. Truer words have never been said. Please feel free to share, esp with "down home" Americans who like traditional music....ask them to request the song be played on their local country stations.

"Joan Baez taught us that tart-tongued political folk could be sung oh so sweet, and this Tennessee songman soaked up that lesson--as well he ought, having recorded with both Joanie and Bobbie back when the hard rain had just begun to fall. Well it's raining again, and songs like "Don't Be Afraid of the Neo Con" bring '60s poli-folk style into the modern moment."

Download at http://music.download.com/normanblake/3600-8989_32-100048040.html?tag=MDL_genre_door &/or give it a rating (free registration required....it's cnet).

Can anyone find/post the lyrics?

1. Cool. Thanks. I'll send this to my very confused step-father.
He's a Boosh Boot Licker but loves this kind of music. Maybe, he'll actually ask me what is a neocon and we can get a conversation going about reality.

2. Great song. Here are the lyrics
NORMAN & NANCY BLAKE
Don’t Be Afraid Of The Neo-Cons

And away down yonder in the Florida sand

Old Jeb Bush is a mighty man

He told little brother, don’t be blue

For I’ma gonna hand this thing to you

The churches all got on board

In the Holy name of our Lord

They took him for their favorite son

And they sent him away to Washington

Now Georgie Bush, he is the man

He landed in Afghanistan

We’ll get Osama, was his crack

And now we’re stranded in Iraq

He told ole’ Rumsfeld on the green

Now you’re the best I’ve ever seen

Just heed my words and you’ll go far

And help me win my daddy’s war

O’ Cheney lives away down town

By a cement bunker underground

No more he’ll roam Wyoming's hills

Halliburton is his thrill

Don’t send your money to Washington

To fight a war that’s never done

Don’t play their games don’t be their pawns

And don’t be afraid of the neo-cons

Katrina blew through the town

Black waters flooded all around

No money to raise the levees high

And so we watched New Orleans die

Bill Clinton was a democrat

He saved us money in his hat

He fell from grace the story goes

Then Georgie put us in the hole

Now Casey was Cindy’s son

He marched away with his gun

For a noble cause he heard Bush say

He died in a war so far away

Now Georgie is kind and meek

He kissed the king upon his cheek

They walked the garden hand in hand

As the oil and blood dripped on the sand

And now my little song is done

'Bout the neo-cons in Washington

No more I’ll sing these words again

You can see it all on CNN

Don’t send you money to Washington

To fight a war that’s never done

Don’t play their games don’t be their pawns

And don’t be afraid of the neo-cons

4. Norman Blake???
Now THAT is tres cool.

I remember seeing him years ago, opening(!) for Doc Watson.

Glad to hear that Eliza Gilkyson's "Highway 9" has company.

Way to go, Norman!
