UNC graduate charged with attempted murder in campus crash

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. A recent University of North Carolina graduate has been charged with nine counts of attempted first-degree murder.
The charges come a day after he allegedly drove an S-U-V through a popular gathering spot on the Chapel Hill campus.

Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar (REH'-zah tah-ur-eh-ZAHR') is also charged with nine counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to cause bodily injury.

The university's police chief says Taheri-azar told investigators he wanted to -- quote --"avenge the deaths or murders of Muslims around the world."

9. I'm a UNC grad and

I know the area called "The Pit" well. It's a place to hang out between classes and is also a place where political debates happen. At noon, it is especially crowded because the dining hall is there. This idiot clearly carefully planned this. If you are familiar with the campus, you know that the Pit is not easily accessible to vehicles. Also, he knew when it would be most crowded and he would have the most targets. Whatever the motivation, this guy is an asshole and should rot in jail.

heard 9 people were hit and none had serious injuries. So glad. Initial reports were that the SUV was doing 40-45 mph. Knowing that part of the campus, I don't see how he could've been going that fast.
