Jerry Falwell Has Something He Would Like To Clear Up
March 1, 2006

Earlier today, reports began circulating across the globe that I have recently stated that Jews can go to heaven without being converted to Jesus Christ. This is categorically untrue.

These false reports originated from a March 1 Jerusalem Post front page column which said: "An evangelical pastor and an Orthodox rabbi, both from Texas, have apparently persuaded leading Baptist preacher Jerry Falwell that Jews can get to heaven without being converted to Christianity. Televangelist John Hagee and Rabbi Aryeh Scheinberg, whose Cornerstone Church and Rodfei Sholom congregations are based in San Antonio, told the Jerusalem Post that Falwell had adopted Hagee's innovative belief in what Christians refer to as 'dual covenant' theology. This creed, which runs counter to mainstream evangelism, maintains that the Jewish people have a special relationship to God through the revelation at Sinai and therefore do not need 'to go through Christ or the Cross' to get to heaven."

While I am a strong supporter of the State of Israel and dearly love the Jewish people and believe them to be the chosen people of God, I continue to stand on the foundational biblical principle that all people - Baptists, Methodists, Pentecostals, Jews, Muslims, etc. - must believe in the Lord Jesus Christ in order to enter heaven.

Dr. Hagee called me today and said he never made these statements to the Jerusalem Post or to anyone else. He assured me that he would immediately contact the Jerusalem Post and request a correction. Before today, I had never heard of Rabbi Aryeh Scheinberg or had any communications with him. I therefore am at a loss as to why he would make such statements about me to the Post, if in fact he did.

I'm speechless.

"And if you move it over just an inch that way, you should be able
to hit Jerry smack dab on top of that enormously fat head of his..."

2. This is such bullshit
I truly believe that if we live by the principle of do unto others as you would have them do unto you then when we leave this world no matter what our beliefs are we will go to the place of our choosing.
I am not a christian or any other faith.I consider myself to be a spritual person who believes in the laws of mother nature and acts of kindness to our fellow men-women.
Judge not!!!!!

3. On the 8th day God said Jerry gets to decide who goes to heaven.

What if only 144,000 people went to heaven and their job was to be leaders of the billions living on the perfect earth? (Revelations 7:1-8)

This is certainly a different interpretation than Jerry has. Many suggest that "moral" or "christain" leaders are just manipulating people's fears to gain power rather than telling the truth about what the Bible says. Hey, the Bible says, "The truth will set you free."

People should stop listening to Jerry because he's a liar.

4. Whatever
Most Christians believe their particular denomination are the only ones going to heaven. It's stupid, sure, but Falwell is not even being controversial here. There are much better reasons to hate Falwell than this.

7. So what about Jesus?
He was a Jew and born to a Jewish family. What about Mary and Jospeh and John the Baptist? And in the end just because you're of a particular religion doesn't mean you're better than someone else. We all have freewill to believe what we believe.

8. Hey, don't ask me...
...I think all religions are bullshit. I'm just saying, this belief is common in Christianity. Falwell's just being honest about it.

9. I have often thought ...
... that if God is so petty and fixated upon us that he actually cares about and sternly passes judgement upon how poor humanity worships Him (hair cuts, clothes, prayer verses, songs, dances, buildings of worship, what day you worship, etc etc etc), then we are all in big trouble because I seriously doubt anyone really has it completely right.

Isn't the message of Jesus forgiveness? That is what has always appealed to me.

10. The new fundies
are much more into the old testament, jealous, vengeful god--the Jewish god, ironically enough.

We'd be a lot better off if the bible was a one line text--"Do unto others..."

11. Isn't there a special forum on DU for religious discussion?

I could personally give shit less what these whackos have to say about anything or anybody. except that these evil bastards cause most of the world's misery including cause for wars, while capitalizing on people's vulnerabilities, politically and financially.

Support Separation of Church and State now or forever be subjected to the murderous Fascists Theocracy.
