CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts -- Katherine Albrecht is on a mission from God.

The influential consumer advocate has written a new book warning her fellow Christians that radio frequency identification may evolve to become the "mark of the beast" -- meaning the technology is a sign that the end-times are drawing near.

"My goal as a Christian (is) to sound the alarm," said Albrecht, in a conversation over tea at a high-end grocery store.

1. I don't get why the fundies need to "sound the alarm about the

End Times"............after all, they eagerly await the End Times, knowing that they will be raptured directly up to heaven and we unbelievers will be left to suffer under the antichrist here on earth..........

You'd think they would be cheering, rather than worrying.

Social Security cards, UPC systems, ATM cards, all at one time were thought as fulfillment of the "mark of the beast"

5. As A Christian, I'm More Concerned About Privacy

Than whether this is the "mark of the beast"

I've never gotten those who look for signs of the end times.

Believe me, I think humans are destroying our ability to live on the planet fast enough without some kind of divine plan being the culprit.

A link off your link talks about RFID chips, which are used quite a bit. I even think I wear one at work because I work in a hospital and wear a badge that tracks my whereabouts at all times. This is done for both security reasons, and as a way to monitor where employees are if that data is wanted or needed.

I worry much more about our losses of privacy in this country from both corporate and governmental (which are increasingly difficult to differentiate one from the other) sources.

That was what I found odd about the article. There are enough problems with RFID tags being embedded in our consumer products, autos, etc that should be addressed without making this some kind a "end times" religious dust off....

corporatism that is taking over:

10. Let Albrecht be a useful idiot

If we can stop the abusive use of RFID and other privacy-stealing technology by screaming "Mark of the Beast!" I say let's go for it. No rational argument for privacy seems to gain traction.

for it's positive aspects.

In short order , once it becomes ubiquitous....It will morph into a worldwide caste system.
you'll never know if the person behind you, or in front of you is actually paying the same price as you for goods. Everyone will have a clearance level, a need to know level, and that will be crucial to clear the checkpoints. RFID is the key to their twisted world.
