RFID tags may become "The Mark of the Beast" ....
Edited on Sat Mar-04-06 08:59 PM by MazeRat7
Yet another article showing how ignorance, mythology, and wishful thinking can lead to completely irrational decision making....

<snip>
RFID: Sign of the (End) Times?
CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts -- Katherine Albrecht is on a mission from God.

The influential consumer advocate has written a new book warning her fellow Christians that radio frequency identification may evolve to become the "mark of the beast" -- meaning the technology is a sign that the end-times are drawing near.

"My goal as a Christian (is) to sound the alarm," said Albrecht, in a conversation over tea at a high-end grocery store.

</snip>

*nuff said.. I think the article speaks volumes about what is going on in this country....

1. I don't get why the fundies need to "sound the alarm about the
End Times"............after all, they eagerly await the End Times, knowing that they will be raptured directly up to heaven and we unbelievers will be left to suffer under the antichrist here on earth..........

You'd think they would be cheering, rather than worrying.

2. Perhaps their house is not in as good of order as they claim ?
I've never understood it either.. I would think they would be standing on the corner yelling...."Bring it on"...

Oh wait...that was someone else. *grin.'

3. This type of nonsense has been being on for years
Social Security cards, UPC systems, ATM cards, all at one time were thought as fulfillment of the "mark of the beast"

Biblical ignorance is not a current problem. It's been around for a long time.

If anything people ( christians ) are realizing this type of thinking is pretty much done for a dollar.

5. As A Christian, I'm More Concerned About Privacy
Than whether this is the "mark of the beast"

I've never gotten those who look for signs of the end times.

Believe me, I think humans are destroying our ability to live on the planet fast enough without some kind of divine plan being the culprit.

A link off your link talks about RFID chips, which are used quite a bit. I even think I wear one at work because I work in a hospital and wear a badge that tracks my whereabouts at all times. This is done for both security reasons, and as a way to monitor where employees are if that data is wanted or needed.

I worry much more about our losses of privacy in this country from both corporate and governmental (which are increasingly difficult to differentiate one from the other) sources.

8. As you should. RFID is ripe for abuse but has some benefits too....
That was what I found odd about the article. There are enough problems with RFID tags being embedded in our consumer products, autos, etc that should be addressed without making this some kind a "end times" religious dust off....

Oh well..

6. Shouting "Fire!" in a crowded theater.
Terrific. Just when you think it can't get crazier out there, you find out we're only warming up. This is going to be fun. Weird. But fun. LOL.

9. Read carefully. The book also talks about the totalitarian
corporatism that is taking over:

"The Spychips Threat is in fact a Christianized version of its secular predecessor, Spychips: How Major Corporations and Government Plan to Track Your Every Move with RFID, which came out last fall.

Both books are published by the Christian publishing powerhouse Thomas Nelson. Both lay out the same totalitarian scenarios, based on documented plans by Philips, Procter and Gamble, Wal-Mart and other companies, along with the federal government, to track consumer goods and people individually."

Perhaps there is some common ground to be explored?

10. Let Albrecht be a useful idiot
Edited on Sat Mar-04-06 09:55 PM by Gormy Cuss
If we can stop the abusive use of RFID and other privacy-stealing technology by screaming "Mark of the Beast!" I say let's go for it. No rational argument for privacy seems to gain traction.

14. It may not be the mark of the beast...but it could be a fascist tool.
RFID implantation is one issue where I won't disabuse the Xtian fundies from their mythology. The more opposed to personal tracking the better.

15. RFID will be sold to the world
for it's positive aspects.

In short order , once it becomes ubiquitous....It will morph into a worldwide caste system.
you'll never know if the person behind you, or in front of you is actually paying the same price as you for goods. Everyone will have a clearance level, a need to know level, and that will be crucial to clear the checkpoints. RFID is the key to their twisted world.
