Bush plays cricket - HILARIOUS PIX!
"US President George W Bush was hit by a ball at the heavily-guarded US embassy in Pakistan - as he tried his hand at the country's national sport, cricket."

Stepping up to the plate:

2. These photos suggest that Bush is what, in my youth, we called
a "spaz." This is the guy who repeatedly falls off his bicycle and couldn't even manage a Segway. What an athlete!

3. Love the accompanying article.
Especially this part:

Separately, Pakistani cricket legend Imran Khan was placed under house arrest for trying to lead a protest against Mr Bush's visit.

12. I killed my tv a long time ago.
I practically worship the BBC.

They are everything our media could have been if they hadn't been corrupted by the reichwing.

And their tv shows kick butt too.

6. Wow.....whatever happened to encouraging DEMOCRACY across the world?
Remember this, guys?

WE THE PEOPLE....
CERTAIN UNALIENABLE RIGHTS....
LIFE, LIBERTY, AND THE PERSUIT OF HAPPINESS...
FREEDOM OF SPEECH....

BUT now there was only a single commandment, and it ran: ALL Animals Are Equal, But Some Are More Equal Than Others.

Seems not many were paying attention in class.

As Frank Zappa once said, "It isn't getting any smarter out there . . ."

Welcome to DU, by the way.:hi:

5. And they used a tennis ball instead of a hard cricket ball.
God forbid we should risk getting a welt on His Magnificence's blotchy hide. They really should have used a Nerf ball.

And...is that a real cricket ball, or a tennis ball?

Bush playing cricket. I almost wish I could have seen that.

8. It is, in fact, a tennis ball.
"The baseball-loving leader was shown how to bat and bowl by members of Pakistan's national team, using tennis balls instead of harder cricket balls." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/4774868.stm

Our Great Leader is ready to take on the terrorists of the world but cannot face a cricket ball. What, didn't he bring his Kevlar shinguards?

Pathetic,

15. Oh gosh, Georgie's Balls are hollow!
Indeed using tennis balls!

It's easy to say he's a wuss for using tennis balls rather than a cricket ball but have you felt how hard those bloody things are, especially if they smack you in the side of the head? Sorry for being a wuss here and yes I am going to defend the undefendable on this one. They were right to use tennis balls.

On second thoughts perhaps cricket balls would have been safer. Since they're often solid (the ones we used at school were hard solid plastic), there's less chance to hide a bomb in the ball. Someone could have lit a fuse and hurled the ball at him.

Or am I thinking tennis shoes here?

Maybe it's my British wit coming through in dastardly ways again.

(note to the watching NSA: this is a joke. An attempt at humour. You guys probably wouldn't know it unless someone slapped you around the face with a wet haddock.)

In any case, yes it's a tennis ball, yes, he's a wuss but with experience with playing cricket he's a wuss for all the right reasons. A cricket ball is harder and smaller than either a softball or a baseball - and man it can do some damage.

Mark.

20. It's a tennis ball - a real cricket ball can do very serious damage...
cricket balls are only slightly larger than a baseball, a bit heavier, and they have a protruding seam around the cirumference of the ball which cuts into your skin. Getting hit in the ribs, arm or jaw by a fastly bowled cricket ball tends to break stuff - hence the heavy padding, helmets and gloves worn by batsmen.

If you ever see photos of someone playing cricket without being "padded up", they're not using a real ball.

I'd love to see them try to defend this lame little hemorrhoid.

Damn, I wish my printer worked, I'd "secretly" post them on the bulletin board at work.

24. "I was fooled by a googly...."
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/14020383.htm

Later Saturday, at a state dinner that ended the trip, Bush showed he had picked up some cricket lingo, if not the skills.

"I was fooled by a googly"....

Ironic -- it takes close to 3 days to learn Cheney "peppered" someone with birdshot - but bush* gets hit with a TENNIS BALL and it's breaking news

ennywhoo - the ball didn't hit him in the butt so there wasn't any brain damage

25. Some more irony
a googly is a leg spin bowler's special ball. It appears to be heading for the leg stump but spins back towards off stump and deceives the batsman. That the king of spin could be so deceived is priceless. That he publicly stated that he was deceived by a googly only tells the planet that he knows nothing about cricket or the political analogies associated with its terms.
That he was deceived by a tennis ball is way to funny.

A fitting comment would be that he bowled a googly to the planet since November 2000. Bush and the googly won't go away - bet on that.
