"I wish Jimmy Carter could be president again."

A woman actually said that to me yesterday. She said she thought he was the last decent man who cared about the people to be in the office.

Jimmy Carter is a good decent man. Too bad he trusted some long-time "friends" and gave them powerful jobs in his administration. But considering the mess he had to clean up after Nixon and Ford, he did an excellent job as president. Too bad he was too nice a guy to be president.

2. too nice to be president ... looking back it seems its not that he was

'too nice' but that the republican party was degenerating into the corruption it now displays and noone really suspected or knew how to deal with it.

The last genuinely decent man to inhabit the oval office. His big mistake was talking to the nation like we were adults.

5. Trust and Respect

I find it difficult to trust any politician, especially today. But,
there is one man that I would say I trust and respect, he would be
Jimmy Carter.

6. Technically, he could be.

He's a little old, and I don't get any indication that he WANTS to be. But, Constitutionally, there is nothing stopping him.

7. Constitutionally nothing

But, while his problems were not of his own making, the perception was that he didn't deal with them effectively. And, while he has been a terrific ex-president, the perception is still out there of him as the "malaise" president whose big decision was the failed rescue attempt of the hostages. I think he remains the only Democrat for President my dad didn't vote for (he ended up voting for Andersen in 1980)
