Ya gotta go to the blog where all the links in the text are active. Missouri, interestingly enough, even has a "state grape". I'm not pickin on Ms! Hell, I live in East Texas....just disappointed it didn't come from down here first. Nascar has started so maybe we are otherwise occupied.
Cheers!
Splat.

Missouri: Where mules and Jesus are king

Rep. David Sater
Missouri House of Representatives

Dear Rep. Sater,

I want to thank you personally for sponsoring the resolution making Jesus Christ the Official God of the State of Missouri. It's about time the state recognized that Jesus deserves the same exalted status as mules and paddlefish. I can't wait to see the poster.

I hope your bill is only the first step toward remaking Missouri into the new Zion. I long for the day when I see blasphemers, Buddhists, and sabbath violators locked up in stocks on the courthouse lawn. That'll set society right in a hurry, won't it.

But there are a couple of other tasks that need to be completed before the pillorying begins. First, you'll need to cleans the legislature of Satan's minions. You might consider starting with Rep. Susan Phillips. Sure, she seems like a god-fearing woman--her bill defending the parental rights of fathers who impregnate their daughters is proof of that--but her strange mutterings and the fact that her eyebrows don't move have convinced me that she might be a witch. If you're unsure, you might consider sitting next to her at a hearing and sticking her repeatedly with a pin to see of you can locate her devil's mark.

Next, you'll need to destroy Branson. If Las Vegas is the new Sodom, then Branson is definitely the new Gomorrah. Think about it. Aren't you ashamed that a town in your state markets itself as the home of acts like the Baldknobber's Jamboree and the Tall Timber Lumberjack Show. I bet the place is crawling with homosexuals.

We have our share of fundie weirdos, but overall more blue than red. Remember, we had Gephardt for a Rep for years.

8. I have long ties (famly roots) to Missouri
(which is MO, by the way. MS is Mississipi..)

This craziness has got to go, but it is being sustained by greedy wealthy REPUGs who are exploiting this culture war among the poor of MO to maintain control... It seriously saddens me, but when Frank asked "What's the matter with Kansas," he could have easily have been asking this of many in Missouri as well.

10. I think we might be doing better.
There are lots of people here who don't like Bush. They don't like the war and they don't like anything else about him, either. Kind of catches me off guard sometimes.

11. Frankly I wouldn't get all that worked up about this
Every once in a while, one of the more fundy RW whackos from the hinterlands of the state throw up some BS like this, just to please their fundy constituents. It hasn't stuck in the past, and it won't stick now. I've checked on the status of this bill, and it is buried in committee, with no hearings scheduled on it. With more pressing matters in the state, I doubt that this bill will see the light of day anymore, and will die a quiet death at the end of the legislative session.

12. I'm a Missourian, for those of you not familiar with my state this

is not going to actually go anywhere.

Let me make a couple of comments.

First we had one of those constitutional gay marriage bans go through here back in August 04, this really riled up the fundie groups around here. This was followed up by a weak campaign against Kit Bond and fairly decent fight for Governor. Unfortunately we elected freaking Matt Blunt, yeah Roy Blunt's kid.

Matt Blunt then turned around and did a LOT of dumb shit. He raped medicaid, tried to take away funding for children under 5 with developmental problems, Privatized the DMV(including giving a nice contract to I believe it was Sam Graves(MO rep in US Congress), sister-in-law). To put it mildly Matt Blunts reputation in Missouri is shit and he polls as one of the worst governors in the country.

Our state is one of the gages of the country, we have gone on whichever side of the Presidential election the winner was for many elections in a row. We flip red and blue pretty regularly. If your from the coasts its probably hard to understand but there is marked different between how red our neighbor Kansas is and how Missouri is actually purple.

If anything a bill like this will make our state think what the hell are we doing and push us farther back into the blue.

14. These dogs have had their day
We'll be sweeping these assholes out come November, even rabid dog fundies have felt the pain brought on by baby doc blunt. This has a feel of look over there, don't watch me, but we know where to keep our eyes now.
