1. What happens if you join up and then have to reformat your computer
because your kid constantly screws the thing up so bad that even virus scans don't work?

2. Add a login PW to your system so the kid has NO access to vital setups
Restrict his Net access, and if all else fails, chain him in the basement.

JUST KIDDING. On the last item only.

I sympathize, though.

3. Since The Beginning :)
Still wish I could optimize mine more though. It just doesn't seem to be working like it had been when I first started.

4. I find a reboot now and again helps.
Running 24/7 has to stopped once in a while. No matter what.

5. That's When The Problem Seemed To First Surface! LOL
I had the dos window running for 2 weeks right after I downloaded it, without rebooting and it seemed to be blazing! As soon as I rebooted and it became a 'service' it seems to have slowed down. Now, even though when I boot up I get a Fah_Core in my Windows task manager processes list, it seems I have to click on RUN in the start menu to get the console itself back up, which then adds a Fah504Console.exe to the process list as well. Ever since it turned into a service it seems weird, but I downloaded it again and now I think they are overlapping each other. I actually want to uninstall all versions completely and start over, but have no idea how.

6. Don't know how it became a service on it own...you'll have to check
with someone more knowledgable than I. As far as uninstalling, The basic .exe for Folding @ Home does show up in the Add/Remove Programs list; you should be able to remove it that way. If there's more than one Folding @ Home or "FAH" in the list, your problem is solved; Take 'em both out and start over.

7. That's The Problem, It Doesn't Show Up In My List At All!
No trace of the exe in my add/remove list. What is it listed as in yours?

No trace - Yikes!

With no irony at all..."This looks like a job for..."The Folding @ Home Support forum: http://forum.folding-community.org/

Check in with the Client forum about half-way down the page. Someone else has to have run across this issue.

Good luck, and let us all know how you make out.

9. I had a similar problem
Short version: reboot in "safe mode" and use "windows explorer" to locate and delete the file.

Longer version: I downloaded the screensaver version first. Last week I decided to switch to the console version. I uninstalled the 5.03 version and rebooted. Then I downloaded the console version. I followed the directions that Roland99 posted. It never showed up except in "Task Manager" as an exe file. Also according to task manager I was barely utilizing my CPU. After several attempts I finally figured that I should boot up in "Safe Mode" and then use "Windows Explorer" to locate and delete the console version. After that I rebooted, went to the recycle bin and restored the original version.

10. Hmm, just checked my stats and
I'm only showing one comp working in the last 7 days - (mine). Guess my son's has gone inactive.

I'll call him tomorrow and ask what happened.

Thanks for the heads up.

12. Have no idea what happened,
or why the stats showed only one computer working. I'm showing 2 CPUs active again and the latest completed WU was uploaded from my son's comp.

 Maybe something happened when he moved it over to his girlfriend's house a couple of weeks ago? I don't know - he doesn't know - but looks like we're back in business.

and my post will give this thread a :kick:

thanks again, mcscajun.
