Remember, they were North, South, East & West of Tikrit, or something like that... but, all over the fracking place!

21. Pace is on MTP telling Russert that William Buckley should
walk the streets of Iraq and talk to the people (Buckley now says the war is lost). Russert said, "Do you really think Buckley should walk the streets of Iraq?" Pace had to admit that wasn't a good idea. I personally would like bush to walk the streets of Iraq.

16. Where have the faces of our leadership been during the past week's crisis?
Not a face on the news or talking head shows. No nationally covered press conference, nothing.

22. I hear you there.
Only nine of them would stand up for our rights. When the DOJ appealed for this Country's right to legally torture people, I knew my relationship with my Country had changed in a very fundamental way. That is a really major statement as I am a (heartbroken) veteran.

14. 70% of troops want us out within a year....
We are in the middle of a civil war and diverting our resources away from the war on terror. Al Queida is a very small portion of the problem in Iraq. Iran wants us there, Al Queida wants us there and China wants us there. Why? because we are depleting our resources

23. That's an astute observation by Murtha.
Edited on Sun Mar-05-06 10:48 AM by Dr. Jones
I never thought of that. China and Iran realize this war is a Vietnam-style quagmire and want the US there to deplete its resources. Then it will be far easier to destroy the US.

Just look at Katrina - I'm sure they were watching closely. It showed us that this Administration really doesn't care about protecting the people, and that National Guard numbers are so depleted that they couldn't respond to the disaster.

24. There is an anti-Murtha billboard on Hwy. 316 btwn. Athens, GA and Atlanta
Edited on Sun Mar-05-06 10:51 AM by CottonBear
that says (superimposed over a huge American flag background):

Rep. Murtha: Democrats cut and run (this next part in HUGE letters) Marines never do!

The immediate swiftboating of Murtha, a Marine and a Democrat, is apalling. :(

Oh yeah, this billboard is near the one owned by a fundy, wingnut, Repub state senator and billboard company owner (Ralph Hudgens) that says (white letters on a black background):

Don't make me come down there.
God

These Repubs and Wingnuts must believe in a old testament god. They certainly are not Christians. :(

Doesn't that make them AGAINST THE TROOPS to be discrediting a former Marine like this? Murtha served our country bravely - should we not honor him?

It really makes me sick when I see that billboard. It's located in "red" county. I detest the people who paid for it, the company that owns the billboard and anyone who thinks swifboating Murtha is OK. :grr:

Coalition Commander Says Iraq Crisis Has Passed
By Al Pessin
Washington
03 March 2006

Pessin report - Download 588K
Listen to Pessin report

General George Casey (file)

The American commander of coalition forces in Iraq says the crisis caused by the bombing of a Shi'ite mosque in Samara 10 days ago has passed, and that the violent reaction to the bombing was not as extensive as some reports indicated.

General Casey was concise in his assessment of the current security situation in Iraq.

"I do believe that the crisis part of this has passed," he said.

The general said most of the violent reaction to the mosque bombing was centered on Baghdad and Basra, and that there was little or no violence in most of the country. And he said many reports of attacks on mosques turned out to be false. Overall, he reported severe damage to only two or three mosques, about 350 Iraqi civilian casualties and only about 20 demonstrations that involved more than one thousand people, none with significant violence.

edit for the best part:

<snip>

"Has there been violence and terrorism here in Iraq in the wake of the Samara bombings? Clearly. Is that violence out of control? Clearly not," general Casey said.

casey has clearly lost it if he thinks most folks are fooled by his horseshit.
