I lost my temper and sent a vicious email. WARNING! EXTREMELY GRAPHIC!!

My best friend is always getting these horrible reich-wing "Christian" emails from a woman he knows that thinks she's hysterically funny, which he forwards to me.

This one finally was the last straw and I lost my temper and sent her the email I have included that follows. I imagine she will be turning it over to DHS.

Will I get a visit for this email? I really do not care at this point. I am so sick of these morans and their hatred and chosen ignorance.

Did I do a completely horrible thing? I always try to never hurt a soul, but for some reason I just lost it and went off in this email.

In the case of the OP's pictures, they show graphically that this is not a laughing matter, and that people are dying horribly, and they do it far more effectively than mere words could do. If these terrible things had happened to your children, would you not want to respond violently? The point is not to justify suicide bombing, but maybe to understand why some could be driven to such extreme acts. Little kids being blown to bits is not a basis for a joke, ever, and maybe some people need to be hit over the head with graphic, ugly reality before they get it.

We live in a culture where organized lying and spin from the right wing propaganda apparatus is so ubiquitous that even liberals just figure it is part of the daily grind of life. My email inbox gets clogged with this crap, too -- by looking at the names on the delivery lists, you find these things get spammed to dozens or even hundreds of hapless recipients at a whack.

And we wonder if it is OK to fight back with the reply-to-all button.


A couple of years ago, I got one of these dopey things forwarded from a Bushbot relative. Just like the OP, it came to me on the wrong day and I spent a couple of hours rebutting the outright lies, the half-truths and the ludicrous value judgments packed into a couple of hundred words of text. I conceded a couple of points that were not just lies, while making counterarguments to put in perspective what little factuality there was to found in the dumbshit email. My only regret was that I did not think to include some graphic photos like the OP did!

To my pleasant surprise I got several complements from other persons on the distribution list who, like me, did not ask for an idiotic blast of dimwitted propaganda.


This thread reminds me that I have been a wuss ever since. I did it once and then went back to deleting the crap before opening it. This is a mistake, folks.

The reason why rightwing crapola is so prevalent is that their propaganda machine is relentless and because they count on our good manners to avoid confronting them. If everybody other than the 25% of hardcore wingnuts gave a rude rebuttal to this horseshit, two things would happen --

1. The wingnuts would be disabused of the notion that their cutesy "jokes" and pithy political "wisdom" is anything but cheap propaganda. Eventually, they will discover that politics is about contention -- and that they are contending with people who actually have the light of reason on our side. Remember, most Americans of all political stripes do not realize that the MSM does not actually present the left side of the story. Most of the wingnuts I know personally have never even heard the real arguments in favor things like the Social Security, Medicare, Unemployment Compensation, Respect for Due Process of Law, etc. Instead, they see the Colmes version -- the punching bag argument of bleeding heart compassion for evil and lazy people.

2. The general public which is not made up of wingnuts would also see that there really is a living breathing LEFT in the USA. People that you know are actually liberal. We actually care about what happens to our country.


I think the photos are vital to this kind of message. Bush's waning support comes from people who still want to look at the abstractions -- "We are fighting them there so that we don't have to fight them here." The only way to counter this variety of stupidity is to force people to face reality.

I've been accused of not knowing what war is like. I'm afraid I know too well. The whole motivation for this war is a fraud. We could have easily contained Saddam and worked through sanctions to keep him bottled up. It pains me greatly to know that these horrible things are happening in our name. ...who lost much of his family to our senseless govt.

It started as just a trip to the airport. But the cab driver was different. He was indifferent toward us--he actually looked us in the eye, smiled warmly, shook our hands--he had a vibe about him that I liked. Oh and almost forgot, he was middle eastern.

In the course of our trip, we learned that he lost a big portion of his family to the fact that shrub and company bombed a country that never attacked us (or anyone else) prior to his attacking them. Learning this I felt ill, and started to cry silently in the back seat of the cab. It's even hard to write about it now...

My husband grabbed my hand, seeing I was crying and told the man that we are adamantly against the war--have protested against it, and never voted for this idiot. That were are ashamed to be a part of a country that could take away other's families and children this way. We both apologized to him for his enormous loss.

But you know what? That man was not bitter. Sure, when he spoke of losing family to American attacks, you could hear the hurt and loss in his voice--but again, this man's spirit was so positive, so loving.

I didn't understand, how he wasn't more angry or perhaps how he didn't hate us. I asked him how he could be this way, how could he not hate all Americans. He said because he loves his life, that he simply loves. That love is so much more powerful than hate. Because he loves the opportunities he's afforded by being here. He has his own business, has other drivers that work for him--he can be there for his children. Because the love in his heart could not be destroyed by the ignorance or hatred of people like shrub.

I was so moved by this man, and so upset to meet someone personally affected by the senseless invasion and attack on his country. But our government and what they've taken from him did not shape him. He was happy in spite of it all...Happy, loving, positive and kind. Our time together was brief, but I was so moved by meeting him and the brief time we spent together.

Thank you for speaking truth to the ignorance you were sent by e-mail. Thank you for letting that person know there are faces to the crimes of our government--human beings that were hurt and who lost their loved ones. It may not make any difference to someone like that, but you never know.
