Hope this is a trend and is happening in other cities and counties too!
DURHAM, NC -- The Durham County Republican Party held its annual convention Saturday amid news that came as no surprise, but that nevertheless dismayed GOP standard-bearers: The number of registered Republicans in the county is down about 3,400 from nine years ago.
To make matters worse, there are no GOP candidates in important elections this year, including the races for sheriff and district attorney.
"I'm embarrassed by that," local party chairman and lawyer Steve Monks said in an interview.
"But we will not run a Republican just for the sake of running a Republican," he added. "I'm not going to fight a battle just to fight a battle. Why spend the time, money and effort on a campaign you know you will lose 60-40?"
