Iraq and the right: mother of all flip-flops coming
I said this a couple weeks ago: The right, which was just weeks ago all weepy about the "interests of noble, freedom-loving the Iraqi people" and about the need to "stay the course at all costs," is about to do a group flip-flop on the Iraq war. Seeing a potential disaster looming in November, their new mantra will be: "Hey, we tried. Those stupid Iraqis blew it. Screw 'em, we're gone."

When John Murtha suggested a gradual withdrawal from Iraq, he was a "traitor." But when the idea comes from the right's Glorious Leader, it'll be praised as the best idea ever:

Here is an example of the new mantra:

2. coming from the intellectual elite of the right we have
to expect this.

that does not mean that they have given up on their neocon and neoliberal goals -- which is to drive the global economy deeper into the hands of a corporate few.

i know that it 's popular here to think that big oil is the only major player here -- but there are others just as important to the neo-whatever goals.

if thoughtful people on the left -- like some very brilliant folk here at du -- could ever get the democratic party's attention -- much of what the intellectual right throws out there could be effectively, aggressively countered.

loosing control of the converstion now ? we could only blame ourselves.

3. Seen Pat Buchanan's latest?
He says it's pretty much politically necessary for Bush to use Iraq as a staging ground to attack Iran. Hold yer nose and wander over to World Nut Daily where Pat leaves his droppings. - "the right" has already decided they have to skeedaddle out of Iraq, they just have to first figure out how to do it and blame the Dems for having to do it. There's got to be SOME way to blame Hillary for this! :)

7. Hillary, Schumer and Joementum will be left
out in Rught Field as warmongers; being successfully outflanked by the Puke party.

5. They'll say this
They'll say this: The left is getting what it wants and they're still complaining. They'll also (without a hint of irony) accuse Dems of "flip-flopping" if they dare to criticize the Bush pull-out plan.

I sure hope the Dems are prepared to counter the coming spin. By summer, the GOP will cast itself as the "anti-war" party. But if they win, they'll flip-flop again in favor of a war in Iran. And the Bushite sheep will ride along for every twist and turn.

6. check this from the Detroit News' Thomas Bray
Do I have to even tell you what the default
excuse is? Blame Clinton.

"As Hillary Clinton took the oath of office -- her husband beaming in the background, though he won't pick the menus for state dinners -- she felt mixed emotions.
On the one hand, she was America's first female president. On the other hand, she now had Responsibility, with a capital R.....

<snip>
The bombing of the Shiite mosque had been interpreted by many Americans as proof they were losing in Iraq.
A significant bloc of congressional Republicans, fearful of losing their grip on power, had pressured the Pentagon into accelerating its scheduled drawdown of troop levels. Iraqi politicians, mindful of what had happened after U.S. troops departed South Vietnam, moved to save their own skins -- starting with the surprise release of Saddam Hussein from custody into a thinly disguised form of "house arrest" in the Sunni triangle.
Throughout the Middle East, the message was clear: Terror had won. In the United States, the Republicans lost control of Congress anyway in 2006 -- in part because of a "culture of corruption," in part because their efforts to weasel out of Iraq were seen as a confession of failure. The GOP candidate for President in 2008, John McCain, had been unable to assuage the doubts within the Republican base.
All of which was enough to hand the White House to Hillary Clinton, though by a 46-40 percent plurality (with 14 percent to the Greens and Libertarians). Though eager to proceed with HillaryCare at home, she first faced a gathering storm abroad.

And what if that darned Bill had nailed Osama with a missile when he had the chance?

8. Wow, how incredibly out of touch with reality. Talks about Iraq and then
ends with what if Bill had nailed Osama.

What if Dubya had gone after Osama instead of getting us mired in Iraq?
