The Left Hand of God: Retaking our Country Back from the Religious Right
Rabbi Michael Lerner

Rabbi Michael Lerner examines the current state of faith in government in his new book "The Left Hand of God." The author challenges the Democratic Party to reclaim America from the so-called "Religious Right" by rethinking its relationship to God and letting go of their deep fear of religion. This event was hosted by American University in Washington, DC.

Rabbi Michael Lerner is the rabbi of Beyt Tikkun synagogue in San Francisco, and the editor of Tikkun magazine.

2. So ... this man's solution to getting religion out of our government
is to bring religion into the other major political party? I know he means well, but in the long run, I think it's going to hurt us even more. :-(

4. I am so glad you brought this up...I kept thinking Rabbi Learner was
connected to Abramhoff, till I googled and found out it was Rabbi Lapen, not Learner who was the Abramhoff crony! THANK YOU!

to perk me up, but *sigh* he's doing nothing for me. Maybe the question/answer will be better?:boring: Eeek...he just mentioned how ANSWER has not brought "love" into the Dem anti-war movement. Hmmmm...I need to think about why "love" is needed in an anti-war protest. I don't think ANSWER is the answer to a successful protest, but "love" is needed in order to get our message out? Love? Oy Vey!

9. Maybe he was suggesting "love" instead of rightwing theology of hate
And what he was saying about "ANSWER" was that they told someone he knew that Jews didn't belong in their discussion. I think he meant that being so exclusionary to others who want to be a part of it is actually counterproductive and may turn them off to a progressive message.

I think he at least implied that we should be doing better than that (hope that helps).

And by the way, I distinctly remember "love" being a key message from the anti-war movement over 35 years ago!
