Is Al Gore: a) a media mogul who is using his grasp of the internet to revolutionise the TV business; b) a small business owner caught up in the red tape that snags so many would-be entrepreneurs; c) a one-time US presidential hopeful who fancies another shot at the title; d) the saviour of our broken planet?

This week the answer appeared to be all of the above.

The danger is that we'll end up with someone like McCain, who will be place-holder for all the heavy contibutors to the Republican party who have benefited from all of BushCo's cash-producing disasters.

Could it be Gore? Possiblly, I for one hope so.

NPR has a show about the seeds of a political coalition made up of liberal & conservative environmentalists/economists. Liberals dicontent with the Democratic party's failure to truly address environmental and managed growth issues and conservatives discontent with the GOP's abondonment of the environmental and economic policies that steam roll local growth controls and the environment.

We are not there yet, but with global warming problems avalanching to the point that one severe hurricane this season will convince 2/3 of the population no matter what the media says, and with people getting the sense on the local level that pro-business concerns are steam rolling any balance or discussion of preserving the environmental. The potential exists for an entirely new coalition of voters that will address the emerging issues of the future that conservatism and liberalism are failing to address.

The big question is how big can this coalition get? Can it become a significant single issue block like the anit-abortion voter for instance?

Anyone else, I would feel sorry for. But not only is Gore absolutely brilliantly intelligent, but he is PATIENT. And it's going to take one hell of a patient man to clean up Bush's crime scene.

He's come a long ways in these last years. I would vote for him too. I feel a winner coming on. He and Edwards would make a good team. The voting machines couldn't take that away.

Feingold, Clark, Tipper, Oprah, whomever (anybody but Lieberman) -- pick a VP who can run the Senate and will respect and enforce the Senate rules. It'd be a great perk if that person can also campaign well, speak truth to power, and carry his/her own state.

25. well, he had the very poor judgement to pick Lieberman as his

running mate. Imagine, Lieberman one heart beat away from the Presidency. Ok, Cheney/Bush even worse. I will grant you that. But you didn't vote for Cheney/Bush, and Gore gave you the dilemma of voting for him and Lieberman.

Gore also has the baggage of supporting Clinton's record on Iraq, which brought the death of thousands of innocents through sanctions.

We can do better than Gore.

And what do you think his position on Iraq is now? The past is the past. People change. Maybe Gore did. Shouldn't who he is now be what the people base their decisions upon?

29. I like Al Gore a lot. I just don't believe he could win.

Or, if he managed to win (unlikely) I think it would be by the slimmest of margins. Certainly not a "mandate." I've read Al's book (long ago), even went to a primary speech the first time he ran (also very long ago). Al Gore is old news. If were the nominee, American's would ask, "Why cannot the Democrats offer anything new?" He also lacks that elusive "charisma" factor, despite great improvements in his public speaking skills recently.

Again, this is not attack on Gore, I just don't believe he has much of a chance at winning if he were the nominee.
