The Ports Deal, and what else is being missed
Aside from the UAE running our ports, we have had foreign interests already doing that anyway. Even China is in on this lucrative business of running our ports, that U.S. companies have no interest in. Why, and who really benefits by this?

Think about it. Where have a lot of American jobs gone?

Doesn't anyone find it odd that we have shipped our manufacturing jobs overseas, and now we have a massive amount of cheaper made imported goods coming into our ports and we even have to import foreign interests to manage the ports that the imports come into?

Not only has the Government allowed needed jobs to be exported, so we can import the same cheaper quality goods back into the country, but we do not even have any interest in the amount of imports flooding our country. The Citizens of this nation do not matter, and are only required to buy buy buy cheap imports that they were once paid to make here.

How do the American workers and citizens benefit by this policy, when they lose their jobs and now have to accept a cheaper quality product once made here, at the same price?

1. About the ports deal, some are suggesting we need to close the deal in
order to get Dubai to let us use their ports and airbases for the upcoming attack on Iran.

2. Dubai
So if we don't do the port deal with Dubai, does that mean we want be able to attack Iran? If so then i'm really against the port deal with Dubai.

4. Would make it a lot trickier -
if the UAE gets mad because the port deal caves, they may balk on giving us unlimited use of their port. Look at a map of the ME - we would need that port.

7. Let the UAE get mad!
This is a bad deal for americans, it's just that simple. The last thing this country needs is to have a foreign country in charge of our ports. As far as needing Dubai for tactical reasons, well that dog want hunt.

Just count the number of aircraft carriers in US fleet, along with other basses in that region and it's not a very good argument.

8. It's not just the military -
GE has set up shop in Dubai's port along with other corps like Halliburton. Once the dust settles, that port is strategically significant as a 'base of operations' for them to move in and clean up. Halliburton has made an obscene amount of money over Iraq - same will happen with Iran.

3. American citizens do not benefit - we are insignificant to our gov.
Edited on Mon Mar-06-06 11:59 AM by sparosnare
The decisions this government makes for the benefit of corporations and billionnaires - without regard to country. They don't give a damn about the Unites States. The world is their playground and when it comes down to it - we mean no more to this government than the peons in any other country they choose to invade or bomb.

The port deal is crucial in furthering the PNAC plan - domination of the ME. We need to Dubai port to bomb Iran.

13. Port Deal does NOT BENEFIT PNAC -- unless it is changed to include
more U.S. control.

5. You are wrong on one BIG count...
Maybe not even germane to your point, but one an issue which really bothers me when I come across these posts...the big difference is that while private companies hold many varied interests in our country, this port deal involves selling our PORTS, the entryways to our greatest metropolitin regions, to a foriegn GOVERNMENT, not just some big multi-national conglomerate. And not just a government, a government with direct ties to our supposed attackers.

Which just brings up more "messiness." How could any group of people be so callous about a nation who attacked us? So uncaring about the event that they soon afterwards offer collaborators access to our ports and billions of our dollars? Why would someone, anyone, do that?

Maybe they'd do it if they knew that their whole "attack" story was just bullshit anyway, and therefore we have nothing to fear from Dubai, because the only connection they had was made up in the bullshit front stories put out by BushCo.

Just sayin'.

None of this deal makes sense.

10. I wasn't dismissing the security issue on the ports
I was merely addressing that we have exported millions of manufacturing jobs for cheaper labor, only to turn around to import the same products of a lower quality back into the country to buy at the same previous cost.

Not only have we exported our jobs, we have turned the ports over to the foreign interests that we have exported our jobs to, which accounts for such a larger volume of shipments coming into the country now. Now, it's obvious to see that the more you can produce yourself, the less cargo there will be to inspect coming into the country, which increases your ability to inspect what does come in.

But, the purpose of my post was to inquire about the wholesale dumping of the interests of the American citizens and workers, only to benefit a few connected in the government, large corporate interests, and the wealthy elite.

The security issue on the ports deal is only the tip of the iceberg, and the reason for such a large volume of imports coming into the country is the jagged edge slicing open and spilling the economic interests of American workers and citizens.

6. It's about all those smiley faces at WalMart.
And when the marketers at Walmart realize that the money that drives consumption went away with the off-shoring of jobs, where labor and quality were forced to new lows so that WalMart could maintain it's profit margins, it will be too late to fix it.

12. U.S. & Euro Conglomerates doing much bigger deals all the time
Edited on Mon Mar-06-06 02:14 PM by Sensitivity
to takeover global infrastructure without the kind of mass mediated furor
that is going on about DP World/ P&O deal in which only 6% relates to terminal rights
in some U.S. ports. U.S. Imperial dominance has much bigger effects of countries around
the world than outsourcing has on the U.S.

Note -- DP World Deal is 6 Billion. SBC ATT deal is 60 Billion. Do we have any idea
how many operating licenses these companies have in foreign companies around the globe.
Where is the fuss about the impact of this deal on security in all these countries with
U.S. companies apparently letting the NSA tap everything.
