SD Governor uses Dem talking point to promote abortion ban
Edited on Mon Mar-06-06 07:53 PM by Charlie Brown
Am I the only one offended by this brazen attempt to use a Dem platform to apply to "the unborn." What about the elderly, disabled and dispossessed?

http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/03/06/sd.abortion/index.html

"In the history of the world, the true test of a civilization is how well people treat the most vulnerable and most helpless in their society," said a statement released by Rounds, a Republican.

"The sponsors and supporters of this bill believe that abortion is wrong because unborn children are the most vulnerable and most helpless persons in our society. I agree with them."

1. This is the sharade
This is how they convince themselves they are moral and patriotic. They pick a couple of issues that don't require any real personal sacrifice or action, and then hammer away at them so people can pat themselves on the back with phony altruistic mumbo jumbo. They care for the unborn with no voice, so obviously they care about everybody else. They're willing to die for the 2nd Amendment, so of course they care about the rest of the Constitution. Empty platitudes that require nothing in return, that's the entirety of the Republican strategy.

3. They've been doing this for some time....
The whole "spreading freedom in the Middle East" script is lifted from an old-line Democratic Party stance -- remember * saying in 2000 that he didn't believe in nation-building?

The GOPhers tried the WMD script, and the "fighting terrorism over there" script, but they finally stuck together on "spreading freedom" script -- something that allows the mindless BushBots to actually delude themselves into feeling good about all the needless carnage.

5. Maybe elected Dems need to hijack repub philosophies then, huh?

So you lurkers, if you really care about this game, wake up and do unto others what they've already done unto you:

Hit 'em where it counts:

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

Needn't say another damn syllable.

BTW: I'm tired of the political games. On both sides. We need real unity and we need this country put back to sorts. And I don't give a fuck as to what letter you cling to. I want real people. Not game players. And that includes business leaders, Republicans, ANYBODY who cares about making America great again - this partisan game has GOT to STOP. Be Pro-America and I'm with you; for you are the type of person I would gladly stand up for and work with.

4. At least the infant has a home... can't say that for the homeless jobless
When Rounds applies the definition UNIVERSALLY then I agree. Until then he's a shameless, brazen hypocrite.

I also think the adult homeless are just as helpless as the unborn infant. Most of which end up that way not by choice because we all need money to live and therefore we want to work and improve ourselves. Either mental illness OR being discarded by a greedy employer are the usual causes.

6. This is all so misguided
Did you see here over the weekend someone posted where a doctor had testified to the legislature in SD that there is no need to allow abortion in case of incest since those babies can be born with no impairments?

I don't know what they are smoking in SD but it must be some good stuff.

7. Why are the 'unborn' a priveledged class?
Given the slashes in life-saving medications for the already-born - what makes the 'unborn' more worthy of protective legislation? Those using this rhetoric will not be believable until they pass laws protecting life of the 'already-born' - per access to life-saving health care and the ability to have food and safe shelter.

These same folks use "priveledged class" as negative bzzz phrase - why not use it against them? Why is a three second old fertilized egg more "vulnerable" than someone who has worked minimum wage all their lives for jobs that provide no healthcare, who are locked out of life saving medical treatment due to our for-profit health care (ins., hospitals, etc.) system?

8. Well said.
That's part of the problem I have w/anti-choicers -- if they were really pro-life, they'd be on the forefront of demanding universal healthcare (at least for all kids from birth to age 18). The fact that they don't give a damn about healthcare, child abuse, etc. speaks volumes about their "commitment to life".

9. Worse yet are the typical attitudes
towards (already born) children living in poverty and in need of social services. Heck the disdain expressed to those (families - and thus CHILDREN) on welfare is pretty disdainful.
