V fo Vendetta - First Review is in - Thumbs UP!
http://jameswolcott.com/archives/2006/02/the_red_and_the.php

but when it was over I knew it was the movie our post 9-11 minds craved and unconsciously had been working towards, a movie that conjured the fear of terrorism and repression and didn’t just tell us how we got into the Orwellian predicament we’re in (terrain already attacked by Fahrenheit 9-11, Syriana, Why We Fight), but made the imaginative leap that would lift us out of the news, out of the political present, and stand up to that fear—face it with fury and compassion. The irony is that to face the fear, a mask was required, a mask with a mocking grin. ...

the most subversive cinematic deed of the Bush-Blair era,
a dagger poised in midair. Unlike the other movies dubbed “controversial” (Fahrenheit 9-11, The Passion, Munich, Syriana), it doesn’t play to a particular constituency or polarized culture bloc, it’s working on a deeper, Edger Allen Poe-ish witch’s brew substrata of pop myth. Cultural conservatives will loathe it without seeing it (they love not having to leave their houses to lament the latest installment of civilization’s decline and fall) once they hear of and read about the movie’s disturbing political parallels (a fascistic TV host with a witty resemblance to Berlusconi, fertilizer explosives a la Timothy McVeigh; torture, renditions, and subway bombings; ...

V for Vendetta is fun, dangerous fun, percussive with brutality and laced with ironic ambiguity and satirical slapstick (a Benny Hill homage, no less!). But gives the movie its rebel power is the moral seriousnessthat drives the action, emotion, and allegory.

Its funny that just by watching the trailers I had pretty much the same feeling as the reviewer writes. Can't wait!

3. this is sort of a lame admission
but I can't stop watching the trailer. It gives me some sort of fantasy/hope that things will turn out OK. Its really kind of sad:(

4. I've watched it several times with that same sort of feeling.
It's weird - I totally know what you mean. It's like, if action movies are on our side something must really be happening.

8. Isn't that the truth!?!
I can't believe it. I am at the point that anything that wakes a few more people is wonderful. I can't believe that in such a short time I have gotten that desperate! Don't be sad, we may feel pretty pitiful but you never know. Things like this can stir up a hornets nest sometimes.

11. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of the WATCHMEN graphic novel.
Moore single handedly deconstructed the super hero myth in Watchmen and interjects all sorts of deep philosophical examinations. It's a modern classic.

17. Watchmen is better than V, if you cant get both.
But either will amaze & entertain. Funny books aint just for kiddies, ya know.

10. Wow. That's a freaky pic of Moore.
The scorpion rings only add to the freaky Gandalf look he's got there.

23. Awesome writer, but.....
Did you see the movie adaptations of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen? What a steaming load! I'm sure "V for Vendetta" is going to be much better, but I'm amazed film makers could ruin such incredible source material. I am anxiously awaiting the movie version of The Watchmen, however.

25. No "buts"- The comic for "LXG" is flat out awesome. The movie stunk.
The screen play & TERRIBLE movie had little to do with Moore's clever 1800's "super hero" series.

16. Why not?
Something is going to be identified as the catalyst,
years after the fact.
In a nation which actually ELECTS movie stars,
this could be it as easily as anything.
