Just a thought for the men in South Dakota
and those other states that might be considering banning abortions. Afterall it's no skin of your nose, right? All we ever discuss is the poor women forced to bear children they don't want, can't afford or that might be born without major organs. Fun, fun, fun, for us gals.

(shamelessly stolen from firedog.lake)

Last time abortion was illegal, there was no DNA testing.

Pay up boyos. 18 years is a looooooooooong time.

Which was the only bright spot I've seen on this-because it's not your 1950's world anymore-as much as they are trying to claw their way backwards.

4. ala Lysistrata huh?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lysistrata

Aristophanes' anti-war comedy Lysistrata, written in 411 BC, has female characters, led by the eponymous Lysistrata, barricading the public funds building and withholding consensual sex from their husbands to secure peace and end the Peloponnesian War. In doing so, Lysistrata engages the support of women from Sparta, Boeotia, and Corinth. All of them are at first aghast at the suggestion of withholding sex, but they finally agree and swear an oath to support each other. The woman from Sparta, Lampito, returns home to spread the word there.

3. It is more devious than that
This is an intentional strategy. They expect it to lose, because they intentionally left out rape and incest. They will see what the courts arguments are for rejection, then when puke face in the white house appoints the last anti-abortionist, they will bring it up again

to all you MODERATE PRO-CHOICE PEOPLE WHO THOUGHT IT DIDN'T MATTER WHO WON IN 2000 and 2004

Women are valuable in their own right.

7. Isn't "spilling their seed" equivalent to abortion?
Edited on Mon Mar-06-06 09:35 PM by CottonBear
Therefore, no men in SD should masturbate or have night emissions. If they do: JAILTIME! :sarcasm:

22. I was trying not to start a flame war. How about this radical idea:
Mandatory chemical castration for all men in South Dakota whose women want them to reproduce at some future point. All other men will be sterilized. If a woman wants to get pregnant, she'll take her man off the chemicals and then put him back on after she's pregnant. A lot or rapes and incest would be prevented as a bonus.

10. Perhaps all state laws
that end abortion rights, should also include parental financial obligation provisions for fathers - including dna testing to prove or disprove paternity.

If these 'unborn' are as vulnerable as the authors as these bills suggest - than the same laws ought to have financial obligations spelled out in stronger terms than are already the case.

11. Question: If a woman living in SD goes to another state and injests
the morning after pill, is she guilty under this law when she returns to SD? Who knows if she is pregnant or not?

Since it is not an abortion pill.

15. What people don't get about the SD law...
And others in the works, is that it isn't about "protecting the unborn" or "right to life" or when human life begins.

It's about complete subjugation of women.

Now, we're talking about a law that protects rapists' rights including, presumably, parental rights. No one is talking about responsibilities, are they?

Given the general tenor of this law, what do you think would happen to a woman who sues for child support, based on DNA or anything else? Especially if dad is a rich Republican brat.

Jane isn't often wrong, but I think she's indulging in some wishful thinking. (Don't get me wrong...I love firedoglake)

We're under attack, folks, time to armor up!

21. No its not - its all about the baby...
I have spent the better part of the day arguing with pro-lifers...trust me - it's all about the baby with a healthy dose of "you have a choice...choose to close your legs" thrown in.

I think this new law in SD will not hold water when it gets to the SCOTUS. I think this is going to back fire on these cave dwellers big time. Most of America is totally for legal abortion...most americans don't like abortion but they want it to remain legal and safe. This red state abortion rebellion will seperate the wheat from the chaffe and reveal the right wing extremists for what they are. Nosy little assholes that need to mind their own business and worry about their own souls.

19. Sadly though,
how many women are really going to bring the unwanted fetus to term on the chance that they'll be successful in suing for a meaningful amount of child support?

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but I'm afraid most will just be butchered trying to get rid of the kid. That's what the religious right is banking on. Literally.

23. Bingo!
Well said, bezdomny. They won't get child support, meaningful or not. This is about subjugating WOMEN, not holding men responsible for the VERY SAME act.

I fear you're right. There are gonna be some real tragedies before the people of SD wake up.
