Maybe South Dakota Did Us A Favor >>>

This forces the right to put the issue before the SC too soon, and too head-on. Definitely not what they wanted.

They had planned to chip away at Roe gradually, bit by bit. They had planned to take their time. They planned to chip away in stealth, without drawing too much attention to themselves and the gradual decimation of women's rights. Now, they are forced to lay their cards on the table, right up front, for all the world to see. They didn't want a pubic showdown. Now they've got one. Thanks, South Dakota!

1. You could very well be right...
Maybe the rw machine said someone needs to make a go of it and wanted to test the waters so to speak. I also heard on TV today that it could take quite a while for this to make it to the SC.

2. It Probably Is a Gift
Most Americans want abortion to be legal. If it is outlawed, they'll be a lot of pissed people. Even just trying to outlaw it will piss off many people.

(At least, that's what I'm hoping)

4. I must admit, I'm not as unsettled about this as some other folks are.

Then again, I'm not a woman living in S.D.

But we know this won't play out well for them. I just hate to see more wrecking of our country happen so these fruitcakes can conduct their half-baked, faith-based social experiments while we sit and watch its miserable failure then go clean up their messes. Again.

5. Way to pull a silver lining out of a pile of dog shit
I don't believe in the silver lining, mind you. But way to draw the last ounce of blood from a stone.

6. Absolutely!
One only hopes that the appellate system will move fast enough on this to get to the SC before the November elections. They wouldn't decide on the case before next year, but the mere fact that the case is being argued will dominate the news. There are a huge number of pro-choice Republicans that are not going to be happy.

I've always thought that Roe was a crutch for the GOP. They could rail against abortion to please the wacko base while the average middle of the road voter picked other issues to vote on knowing that the right to choose was protected by the court. Believe me, the pragmatists in the GOP do NOT want abortion to be a major issue in voters' minds.

This is not gay marriage, a wedge issue that is a winner for the GOP in large segments of the country. On this one, the votes are with the Democrats. If Roe is overturned, we'll win at the ballot box.

7. May well be right. I wonder if they're acting while still in 100% control
Or maybe the typical neocon grab at anything they can grab to get elected (into power)?

I hope they have jumped the gate, however. Lets hope!

8. Already too late
The DINO's sold everyone out- and the Supreme Court is toast for the rest of most of your adult lives.

In addition, Bush will get at least one more nomination (probably Stevens) and maybe two.

So what if far right forces a showdown. No one else has any cards.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings- but that's the reality- and as long as there are a significant number of DINO's in the party, it's NEVER going to start to swing the other way.

12. This will never be heard by the SCOTUS
It will die in appeals.

The SCOTUS takes on very cases, I doubt they would waste their time with this law, and if it did go before the Court, I doubt Scalia would even support upholding it.
