Enough talk about McCain... be afraid of...
Governor Mitt Romney of Massachusetts.

First of all, this guy has got the frightening charm and good looks the Republicans need at this point. He has the bragging rights of being a conservative Republican governor of a famously deep blue liberal state. He was Bush's main Northeastern attack dog against Kerry in 2004. He is a devout Christian (mormon). He is slowly re-positioning himself as a less-moderate than before candidate. He's eloquent and has a lot of money... aaaaaaand... he once saved a drowning person's life up here in New Hampshire. Sigh.

BUT... to be fair... he did recently take a large misstep...

He announced that over the course of 3 years (From the time he was running for Governor of Massachusetts until now) he changed his position from pro-choice.... to pro-life. Hmmm... strange.

Anyway, watch out for Mitt... he's a scumbag in an Armani suit.

1. I think it'll be Allen, personally.

The fact that Romney is from a blue state (much less Taxachusetts :eyes:)is enough to freak out the fundies.

Allen is nutso conservative, but he's much younger than McCain and from a red state.

3. I would have to go with Allen as well
He's someone unfamiliar like they did with Bush. People just knew his last name and he was his father's son. I do remember reading reports that people just voted for Bush in the primaries for that reason (his last name). So I would go with Allen before I would McCain or Romney. McCain is really trying though kissing Bush's ass and alligning himself with Santorum and meeting with Falwell last October (per crooksandliars.com)

2. Why did he change his position?
I have seen him talk a few times on "Road to the White House" and he could pull it off. I don't know if he would get the nomination though from him being from Massachusetts. So maybe that's why he recently changed his position? I think if he does somehow get the nomination that could be the key to beating him as sad as that is.

5. He may be the governor of Taxachuesetts
But he will reeeeally play up his Mormon upbringing and "Utah standards" as well as his successes with organizing the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. I also know exactly why he changed his position, it was so that the "vast majority of the conservative right" ignore the fact that he governed Mass and focus on the fact that he is pro-life JUST LIKE THEM! Seriously, this man makes me sick.

10. Agreed on every count except...
...>>"He is a devout Christian (mormon)."<<

Mormons are no more Christians than Christians are Jews. IOW, Christianity descended from Jewish roots (and was founded by a Jewish teacher, and nurtured in its early days by Jewish disciples,) but its theology has evolved into something that must be regarded as separate from (and, in the view of Christians, a replacement of,) Judaism.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has Christian roots and was founded by a teacher nurtured in the Christian tradition, but its theology has evolved into something separate from Christianity, even though it claims the whole of Christian tradition as its precursor.

Just as Christians claim the Old Testament as the precursor of the New.

editorially,
Bright
