Who is running these nutjob candidates as Democrats? WTF!?!
Now there's another one, something (else) is going on that has RePug dirty tricks all over it

US Senate Candidate Wants Death Penalty for Homosexuals (Ohio)

TOLEDO -- Merrill Keiser, Jr., is a trucker by trade, and he's hoping his next journey takes him all the way to Washington. His goal is a seat in the US Senate, but first he has to make it through the primary that will determine which Ohio Democrat will be the November ballot.

and now this one:

Racist felon running for the Dem nomination in MO-7 (Missouri)
by RBH
Mon Mar 06, 2006 at 05:50:58 PM PDT

Now, some would just go out and salute the news from MO-7 that somebody filed.

But, if you do a short search on "Glenn Miller of Aurora", you'll find that he's somebody who should not get the nomination to face Roy Blunt.

For one thing, Glenn Miller, Jr. (or "Frazier Glenn Miller") has served three years in prison.

For what? Well, it ties back to this description of Miller by the SPLC:

One of the first white supremacists to use paramilitary tactics with his North Carolina-based hate group, the Carolina Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, which later morphed into the White Patriot Party

Yes, Frazier Glenn Miller is not somebody to praise. In fact, he's still active today (more under the fold)

1. Watch for LOTS of stealth republicans this year
They may not even be that stealthy. But I suspect the GOP is realizing that if they want to maintain control of Congress, they'll need to do one of two things:

Call Diebold (that's my bet).

Or run as Democrats.

It's probably going to be a combination of both.

8. The GOP does NOT expect these guys to be elected,
Edited on Tue Mar-07-06 08:53 AM by Divernan
They run them to cause trouble in the Dem primaries (time wasted debating the RIDICULOUS issue of whether homosexuality is (a)immoral behavior which (b)merits the death penalty); dissuade other Dems from running and/or force legit. Dem candidates to waste money on the primaries instead of using it in the fall election against the repubs; and they run them to generate negative publicity against the Dem party.

12. We've got one in my State House district...
replacing the "Democrat" who switched parties midway through his term. Now the guy vacating is claiming that he's still a Democrat and he's endorsing another "Democrat" to fill his seat.

If that's what he is, then he needs to be outed. We can't put up with bs anymore.

7. We have one of them running for sheriff in our county.
Everyone know he is a repuke, but he is running in the primary as a Democrat. He will probably be on the regular election ballot, too, since we do not have a candidate.

Our chairman will draft a statement about him, so the few who do not know him will know that we do not endorse him.

9. Is he also the GOP candidate/on the GOP ballot?
This happens a lot and is different than the GOP having their own endorsed candidate (as is Blount) and then putting some joke on the Dem ballot.

16. He is not on the GOP ballot.
They are having a huge primary fight. He knows he would not win it, so he chose to run as a Democrat, to have a spot on the ballot. He is the only candidate running as a Democrat. We are concentrating our energies on the county board. We live in a blue state, but this is a red county.

18. My sign is in a very red county, that, fortunately, is
beginning to change. I am in the proud blue state of Illinois.

6. Could it be, oh I dunno the GOP ! ! -these guys look bribable
Edited on Tue Mar-07-06 08:48 AM by Divernan
I know a couple of truckers and their families. They work long, hard hours to make enough to survive. A lot of farmers moonlight as truckers just to make the money to pay the taxes and cover the losses of family farms. Not to dis truck drivers, but it's not a background which motivates or allows people to run for even local political office. Truck drivers (a) cannot afford to take time off from their jobs to spend time fund raising or campaigning; (b) are on the road away from home district or state for large chunks of time - again with little flexibility OR time home to campaign/fund raise; (c) have little or no experience or comfort with public speaking skills used in campaigning; with managing other people; with overseeing budgets; with legislative skills; etc., etc. etc.

Now Ohio (notoriously crooked GOP in charge) has a man who says the only reason he's running as a Dem is that he registered "as a Democrat the last time he voted." And typical for the Ohio media, they evidently didn't ask him (a) if he'd ever been registered as a Republican and if so, for how many years; (b) exactly WHEN was "the last time he voted"; (c) why he was registered as a Democrat (impliedly he switched registration at that point)on only that occasion. Also note that this clown only mentions the death penalty for gays as his only reason for running for office; there's no mention of ANYONE endorsing him; he makes no fund-raising pitch; the lousy article gives absolutely NO background on him - education, marital status, EVEN WHAT HIS HOMETOWN IS!

Then we have the KKK guy from a North Carolina hate group conveniently moved over to Missouri. Yet both these guys are getting coverage to tar the image of the Democratic party, not just in their respective states, but at a national level. This indicates the crude hand of the GOP at a national level. Why should we even be surprised - they've been dedicating time and money to their Dirty TRricks campaign committee for decades.

10. They're not Democrats. They're REPUKES calling themselves "Democrats"
to bring the party down. They will NEVER get a Democratic nomination or win an election under the (D) label. That's not who we are.

19. Actually, in areas where they could get the local Repugs to vote
for these nutjobs in enough numbers during the primaries - they could set up a pretty easy win with a 'normal' Repug candidate and a nutjob "Dem" candidate.

Isn't there some way for the DNC to say - No, you can't run as a Democrat?

I don't want to hear a bunch of whining and hand-wringing. . .we all need to band together and figure out some practical ways of combating this strategy pronto!

14. The local Dem party should publicly disavow them,
including publishing whatever background information they can dig up to show these people do not have a political history as dems.
